TOTAL RECALL Posted: September 24, 2003 1:00 a.m. Eastern
© 2003 WorldNetDaily.com While presidential candidate Howard Dean has won praise for his ability to raise money via the Internet, state Sen. Tom McClintock, a Republican candidate for governor in California's free-for-all recall election, says, when considering daily totals, he is raising more online cash than is the Vermont Democrat.
John Stoos, McClintock's deputy campaign director, told WND his boss was averaging $40,000 in daily contributions via his website after the first televised debate of gubernatorial candidates.
"We're probably going to break $50,000 today," Stoos said yesterday.
The staffer compares that figure to recent daily totals from Dean, which he says range between $8,000 and $10,000. Dean's campaign did not return a request for comment by press time.
Stoos said almost daily rumors that McClintock has dropped out of the race only embolden his supporters to give more.
"The more pressure we get to drop out, the better our fund raising," Stoos said.
According to Stoos, McClintock has raised $1.6 million from 13, 052 contributors ? most of whom have given less than $250 each.
On Monday, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., who bankrolled much of the effort to get the recall of Gov. Gray Davis on the ballot, said if both McClintock and leading Republican Arnold Schwazenegger are still in the race on Election Day, Californians should vote "no" on ousting the governor since, in his opinion, doing otherwise would assure Democrat Cruz Bustamante a victory.
"If there are two Republicans in this race when people cast their votes, there is an absolute guarantee that Cruz Bustamante will be the governor,'' Issa said to the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco Monday night, the Associated Press reported.
McClintock, a conservative on social and fiscal issues, has been pressured by Republican Party officials to step aside so the party might united behind the socially liberal Schwazenegger. The state senator has consistently rejected the option of quitting the race.

Who? Who is this Howard Dean fellow? Everyone I know is worshiping at the altar of TheBentOne, whose High Priest is a fellow named Ashley Wilkes, er, Wesley Clark.
You are not important enough. I said spearheaded.
If AS drops out do either of you truly believe that McClintock will win?
Cruz I or Cruz II?
Not if the RINOs follow through with their threat to vote no on the recall.
Either you believe a pure conservative can win in California or you don't. Which is it and why?
I have already shown that assertion to be a lie. With AS out of the running then the one caveat that Issa made i.e. 2 republicans, is out of the way. So it would be yes on the recall and McClintock the GOP candidate. Would Tom win?

No you haven't. The RINOs have threatened to vote no on the recall if they don't get their way.
In any event, I do believe Tom could win a two-way race against Bustamante. Simon came within 5 points of Grayout last year, and Tom is a considerably better candidate than Simon, and Busty is a considerably worse candidate than Grayout.
I like Tom's odds even better in a three way race, however. Let Arnold and Cruz fight over the left-wing vote, and Tom slips in on te conservative vote.
The smoking gun of what I have been saying all along: Tom is in it for Tom, damn everyone else. A self-centered little man. Like Reagan my ass!
