But money is the drug the states are hooked on. Rights, be they individual or state can get bogged down in legal limbo for a decade. A stop payment on a check get's their attention in the state legislature and gubner's mansion.

Demanding federal immigration laws be enforced to at least the degree they are not obfuscated and circumvented by the states is not an over-reaching federalism concern in my over a beer law seminar.

They didn't even ask me to remove my cowboy hat and sunglasses for the photo! I really like this homeland security. They don't miss a trick!

You probably could have gotten a license while wearing a pile of laundry (I think they're called burquas) and yodeling Bin Laden fan tunes. We are a nation run by imbeciles.

OK, so it is arguable that spineless states do not deserve the authority the Constitution grants them.

Still, the federal grant whip is one I would prefer to see taken away, so states can learn to stand up and walk on their own again.

Yes but your approch interferes with constitutionally guaranteed rights to persons freedoms.

Of course it interfers with freedom of choice but that's the message that Californian's need to hear. Davis was elected and then reelected with two of the lowest voter turnouts in recent California history. That includes both Pubbies and Dems. We're all responsible.

Bye the bye. Signing SB60 into law may be the one item that keeps Davis in office. It may be the best piece of advice Clinton gave Davis. Fear of Bustamante is a powerful motivator.

But some TSA idiot in Newark New Jersey is going to refuse your plane trip because you do not have your cowboy hat and sunglasses!

You may now be destined to wear that get-up for life! Good thing you weren't wearing one of those penis nose eyeglasses and a Yamicca(sp?)

Agreed.....I'm just looking for the fastest fix. Do you guys really think that the vote buyers in New Mexico, Arizona, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Florida, and other heavy immigration prone states are not already putting ink to similar license for illegals bills?

The loud and clear stop payment plan will be heard by all those states. Stop thinking just California guys. This is not a game of battleship by Milton Bradley. It's a full chessboard.

Immigration laws are a federal matter.

I think a quicker fix would be to offer a bounty for visa over-stayers and other illegals: Post a $1000 bond which you forfeit if you turn in the wrong person, and get a $200 reward for each illegal you turn in. INS has 30 days to respond or they pay you double the bounty.

I hope you've got a big basement and lot's of plumbing because they'll be in your custody forever. Why do you think local LEO's just let them go? The INS doesn't care.

Companies like Sara Lee, Tyson, IBP, and such have hired handlers to get these people documented. All they have to do is get there. INS even allows them a waiver of I-9 compliance for 90 days during the time they are "handling their documentation", yet an American will not be allowed to work day one without their I-9 being in order.

Doesn't that tell you something?

Wouldn't free education, housing, social security, and health care fall under this argument also?

I agree with your sentiments 100%. However, do you think Jorge Bush really wants to enforce those laws? He's too busy trying to get a drug bill passed.

.08 has taught me just how states can be made to do just about anything for a bit of silver. Seatbelts, the 55 limit, stoopid emmissions testing, and such.........

One of the first such "highway fund blackmails", which paved the way for the rest, was when the feds used the threat of withholding highway funding from any state that didn't raise its minimum drinking age to 21...

It sure does tell me something. Still, the right LEA for the job is the INS. I completely concur with your view of illegal immigration. But I think the right solution is to change the incentives: make it pay to get rif of illegals.
