In a 92-4 vote, the Senate backed a measure offered by Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., requiring that all permits for special events on the Mall specifically ban the use of structures and signs bearing commercial ads. A few years back I visited D.C. and the the park police were performing some kind of sting operation to rid the mall of ice cream vendors. They would swarm up in squad cars, toss the ice cream man in the paddy wagon, and put the ice cream cart in the back of a pickup truck and drive off. An hour or so later they would rope another one in. Somehow, it was a poignant metaphor of our nation.

Ice cream vendors aren't as well armed as the "vendors" a few blocks away.

I'm just relieved to know that the Senate is finally stepping up to the plate to handle the "serious issues" of the times.
Perhaps they are so preoccupied that they will leave me and mine the f... alone!
