Russian critics blast Putin's record

Five prominent Russians have taken out a series of full-page newspaper advertisements bitterly attacking the Kremlin - and warning the US against friendship with President Vladimir Putin. The adverts have appeared in leading papers in the UK and the US, including the Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Washington Post and New York Times.

The Russians, led by UK-based tycoon Boris Berezovsky, launch a tirade of accusations against Mr Putin. They portray him as a genocidal president who has flattened democracy and has allowed Nazi-era techniques to be used to whip up public feeling.

The campaign, costing an estimated £250,000 ($410,000), is addressed to US President George W Bush, who has described Mr Putin as an "honest, straightforward man".

It raises seven questions about Mr Putin's conduct in the Kremlin,accusing him of:

bringing Russia's parliament, media and courts under virtual Kremlin control and turning elections into a farce committing war crimes and genocide in Chechnya placing his former KGB allies into more than 50% of key government positions presiding over a society which now lives in fear. The advert also alleges that Russian secret services are exploiting anti-Semitism and xenophobia in order to "demonise" big business and create "militaristic hysteria similar to Germany under the early Nazi regime".

Elena Bonner - the very old woman like 90+ year old who just lost her mind long ago.

Vladimir Bukovsky - nothing to say about him except he didn't live in Russia after 1991 at all. So he knows nothing and lives by past.

Ruslan Khasbulatov - He is the guy who was head of anti-Eltsin coup in 1993 together with communists. Was jailed for that but later was pardonned under policy of national reconciliation. I remember that Elena Bonner told very harsh about him at that time. Like "shoot him dead that damn commie!"

Ivan Rybkin - the former head of communist faction in russian parlament.

All of them was thrown out of power in some moment in the past. So they hate Putin because he does something but they didn't. And he ignores them.

Narva, Estonia will play host to Liberal Russia party leader Boris Berezovsky's internet press conference on August 26. Local Russian citizens and anyone desiring the chance will participate from potential supporters of Berezovsky and Liberal Russia to journalists. The Narva union of Russian citizens headquarters told Rosbalt that local businessman Andres Valme is organizing the event.

Yesterday the initiative group of Russian citizens in Narva decided to begin submitting documents for the nomination of Boris Berezovsky as a deputy to the State Duma. Russian citizens, who are living in Narva, want to nominate Berezovksy's candidacy in the 100th election district of the Kingisepp region of Russia. Valme said that approximately 443 thousand voters are registered in the region, of which 41 thousand live in Estonia. According to the Russian Embassy in Tallinn, approximately 120 thousand Russian citizens live in Estonia.
