There was a good History of Coffee thread a few months back, but I couldn't find it. Much intrigue, bean smuggling, and a few wars involved with breaking the Arab coffee cartel about 500 years ago.

IIRC, "Joe" refers to Josephus Daniel, Secretary of the Navy, who stopped the daily allotment of rum.

BTW, I prefer the French Press method - I like the little gritty bits.
