I ran my own coffee mess in Kitty Hawk (I was Hangar Deck Officer), and I can assure you that we DID NOT drink U.S. Navy Mark 1, Mod 0 coffee!

Kearsarge was a different matter -- we did not have a coffee mess in the Ready Room, and had to drink the good ole Navy stuff. But, we were young, then, and didn't know any better.

On the Kitty, I remember the readyroom of VF-111 having the nastiest swill imaginable. Were it not for stealing whatever the nuggets wives sent them, we had nothing good to drink at all. We got the occasional tea bag, but it was mostly muddy burned coffee to wash down the sliders.
