Excellent idea. Not sure it passes constitutional muster, but I like it none the less. My wife hit a drunk who turned in front of her. She now has a permenantly disabled thumb (her writing hand). This guy had one previous DUI conviction, plus a third arrest. Due to the screwy KY DUI laws, since it had been more than five years since his last conviction, it was considered a first offence. 90 days suspended license. NO jail time. To top it all off, no auto ins.

Yeah and so my wife or daughter have to borrow the car and get harrased...
This also opens up the drivers of that vehicle to lying witnesses who for vengence or malicious 'fun' to call the judge and lie..
bad idea imo

"Some motorists convicted of drunken driving are being ordered to put bumper stickers on their cars that ask "How's my driving?" followed by a toll-free telephone number and the statement "The judge wants to know!!!"

What a wonderful setup for anyone who has a vendetta against a convicted drunk driver. Just make an anonymous phone call and hang the person. Also sounds like a great way to give a former spouse some ammunition to "get even", and it gives the cops a great excuse to pull the person over to check them out, even if they are driving well. What the hell is this country coming to? It's getting so cruel and vindictive out there that I'm beginning to feel like I'm living in the 1600's. Everyone wants revenge instead of justice tempered with some mercy. Why not just bring back the stocks, witch hunting and branding of criminals with hot irons and get it done with?

Maybe I missed it, but I did not see any mention of jail time for drunk drivers. Have they tried this approach?

Sounds good. The stocks part, I mean. Seriously, a little public humiliation is a good preventative. This country coddles criminals too much. They should be protected from physical harm, like prison rape and beatings, but punishment should not be comfortable. Otherwise, what is the point?
