I'm always dismayed when I encounter a union member to whom party affiliation is simply a paycheck and benefits issue and nothing more. Of course, that kind non-thinking acceptance is not limited to unions. I could say the same about many lawyers I know. You'd think they would know better than your average teamster.
I would have guessed that teachers tended to be about 85% liberal democrats. Your personal observations to the contrary are indeed encouraging.

Yes, there a lot of changes happening in education, and the old way thinking - "85% of all teachers are liberal Dems" - is really outdated (no offense to anyone). I am speaking of grades K-12 however. In higher education, the 85% number (or higher) may still hold true, and in fact, I think it does. But in K-12, the corruption by numerous teacher union leaders, including some here in FL (in Miami), has not exactly impressed teachers, to say the least.
