[history]
Carpinteria, Santa Barbara County -- Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was dogged by persistent protesters and hecklers Sunday, as he tried to seize the environmental mantle, proposing a $60 million "hydrogen highway" he said would provide a statewide chain of hydrogen fueling stations to help clean the air.

Just where does he plan to get the hydrogen? LOL From the natural gas delivery systems we haven't got and the greens he's in bed with won't let us build. Then there's the energy needed to strip the hydrogen.
This is incredibly stupid. Maybe in twenty years we might start down this road, but not now. The infrastructure isn't ready and the technology is premature.

Oops. Got this confused with a thread on abortion and other social issues. I HAVE NOT read Arnold's greenie policy.

I've read it. I strongly disagree with you. Upon what basis? I am speaking specifically about his environmental policy here. Tell me what's different from what Davis is doing already. Tell me what's different from where Pete Wilson took us. His is an destructive policy both to the environment and the public purse.
I do have professional qualifications on this topic.

This woman needs to get a job and a life.
Anyhow, I don't think Schwarzenegger can get the eco-kook votes he seems to be chasing. He would be better served by running a bit more to the right.

For God's sake, why are we arguing about the possibility that Cruz Bustamante is still in the race?!?!
The b@stard wants to cede California to Mexico!!!!
Why don't money guys take out ads across America to broadcast this fact!!!
Yeah,
I'd still vote for Tom.
But I'd be willing to take a half year off and revolt.

Go ahead and "strongly disagree."
Agenda 21 is not child's play and you need to take the threat more seriously.

There is little chance that Arnold's Hummer can be retrofitted to run on Hydrogen. GM is working on one platform for hydrogen, which different car bodies will be attached to. When I heard this comment, I cringed. It is flat out wrong.
He could, however, have GM's hybrid system installed on a Hummer, but their hybrid system only generates about a 10% increase in fuel economy, compared to Toyota's 70% increase.

Anyhow, I don't think Schwarzenegger can get the eco-kook votes he seems to be chasing. He would be better served by running a bit more to the right. Doesn't matter if he won any eco-kook votes. What matters is the evening local news across the state with Arnold sounding reasonable, making worthwhile suggestions while rabid greenies rant and rave.

Hydrogen is very explosive.Much less so than gasoline.

Correct. Hybrids are the way to go for at perhaps the next ten to twenty years. It will take at least that long to perfect the technology and develop the supply chain infrastructure to make a fuel cell transportation system reliable, assuming that it's a good idea (which I doubt).

Uhh ... 'cause he, y'know, IS?
And is unlikely to get less than 30%, bad campaigner though he is, due to lockstep Demo / Union machine support?
To believe otherwise is potentially disastrous fantasy.

This is exactly like the Ruckus society demonstrating outside a WTO meeting. I don't suppose you know that the globalists inside pay them to be there.

Yup, it's Code Pink.
Medea must've missed the filing deadline--I figured she'd be in the running, such as it is, for top marginal candidate in the Cal governor's race, right up there with Gary Coleman, Mary Carey and Angelyna.

$60 million.
Perhaps someone should mention to Arnold that CA is in a serious deficit position??

Vast "sun-farms" would be devoted to solar generation plants, which is used to generate the electricity necessary to separate hydrogen from water. This sounds very efficient. I can't do the calculation but I'm sure somone can come up with the energy required to separate water in order to fill a gallon size hydogen tank. I wonder how many acres of chemically created solar batteries are required? We need Ralph Nader's Raiders to to provide a safety report on handling hydrogen. Visualize hydrogen gas fires all over Califonia.

Much less so than gasoline. Is it really cheaper, per miles driven, not just per gallon.
While I don't have the figures with me, my understanding is that the main problem with hydrogen as a primary fuel is that, even as a liquid, it has a relatively low energy density by volume.
You would need those gas stations every 20 miles, unless you were also hauling a tanker behind you.

Is it really cheaper, per miles driven, not just per gallon. No, it's not cheaper. You need to add significant amounts of energy to get the hydrogen. The rest of your understanding is correct, but there are many more issues with implementing hydrogen than just its efficiency.
For example, the impact of hydrogen cars is enormous in terms of the mining necessary to support it: copper, rare earth minerals for magnets, and precious metals for catylists. It isn't pretty.
