This is exactly what I like about FReepers, and Republicans in general. We don't stand by someone's side when they committ an act that deserves NO support. Unlike the Bubba sympathizers, who stand up for him no matter how disgusting his behavior, we call it like it is.

While I'd hate to lose a seat to a Dem, Janklow's behavior should, at the very least, cause him to lose his seat.

Better a Democrat.

Blowing through stop signs and equipping his vehicle with emergency lights shows that this "servant of the people" is fundamentally unclear on the nature of the People/Congressman relationship. I don't know anything else about him, but frankly, I don't have to know.

Actualy thats a old Shovelhead, probably FLH Dresser. Not a yuppie ride, this guy was probably a real biker. I hope he is "in the wind" in a better place.

It's rare that I would agree with that comment, but this is one of those moments... It's what separates us from the Dims, who lie/cheat/misrepresent and stand up for any and all Dims. To many of us, what Janklow did was reprehensible, and should result in severe consequences. Losing his congressional seat is minor... He could be have criminal charges leveled against him, and does no favor to other Pubbies around him.

Sorry, you are incorrect. That is a Twincam 88, 1450cc.
1999 or newer.

From Fox News:

Janklow Says He 'Couldn't be Sorrier' for Accident

Monday, September 22, 2003

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — U.S. Rep. Bill Janklow on Monday says he "couldn't be sorrier" for an August accident that killed a motorcyclist.

Janklow has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, which is a felony, and three misdemeanors for an Aug. 16 crash in Moody County that killed Randy Scott, 55, of Hardwick, Minn.

A prosecutor said Janklow was going 71 mph in a 55-mph zone and ran a stop sign at a rural intersection when the Cadillac he was driving collided with Scott's motorcycle.

Janklow, R-S.D., hurt his head and his right hand in the crash. He returned to Washington last week.

Janklow told reporters he thinks about his future but doesn't know what's appropriate. He said he planned to return to Washington on Monday to go back to work.

"South Dakota is a jury, all of them. They're a jury. They want to hear the facts. I don't think they'll make up their mind on anything until the facts are laid out before them," Janklow said.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday in Flandreau to see if the prosecution has enough evidence for a trial.

What Janklow implies by this is that the worst punishment he thinks he will face is the loss of his seat. Let's hope the prosecution comes up with enough evidence to put him on trial for real.

But as far as re-election is concerned, I would vote for Tom Daschle's even more evil twin before I pulled a lever for Janklow. Let's hope the SD Pubbie Party has enough sense to nominate somebody else for 2004.

He can't even remember the name of the person he killed. I don't believe his act.

And that leads to the an obvious question. If he had a medical condition which prevented him from stopping, why was he driving with such a condition?

I can imagine being a family member who is still grieving over the death. Meantime, here's the congressman, boo hoo, boo hoo, poor me and my medical problems.

If I remember the initial information correctly, there wasn't alcohol or drugs present. I could be wrong on that. HOWEVER, there might be a behavioral problem advanced on the basis that he is an "alcoholic."

Here's a stumper... If an alcoholic is driving an SUV, who's responsible when they get into an accident? The alcoholic or the SUV?

You were more righter than I, That is a 1997 Road King. I have a shovel and an twin cam and never would have guessed that was an Road King, what devastation. I truly feel for the family that has to live with the memory of seeing a mess like that as representative of what his final few moments were.

I stand corrected. But the protrusion on the right side of the forward cyl head screams twincam.

Anyway, there is a saying, "Hit a biker, Go to Jail", that should be the law.

Look at the rocker boxes and air filter again, that's a modern Twin cam.

I've gone back and looked at it several times, and I still swear it's a Twincam. It doesn't look like an Evo Roadking to me.

I see a twincam 88. Air box is stock twincam also. I see single piston front cailper which was replaced in 2000, maybe 2001. I see 97 and later front master cyl.

My guess, if we're still guessing, is a 2000 FLHRC. There are no bags present so i would add the "C" because of the saddlebag guards in the original pic. (When wrecked, leather bags go flyin')

Below is the 2004 model, note the brake calipers and the rockerboxs and of course the oval air box.
