"I guess that now belongs to the U.N.??" Yup, that's what it means. Very unfortunate this. Skellig Michael which is an absolutely incredible island (well more like a giant rock...Irish monks lived there from something like the 4th or 5th century until the 10th or 11th century) off the west coast of Ireland is now a World Heritage Site also as are places in the United States.

Well, no, actually it doesn't...I'm puzzled by this. Recognition by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site doesn't in any way change the ownership of the site or the land.
