After having won a hot dog eating contest at Boy Scout summercamp, I share the fondness of CHicagoans for the almighty dawg.

Nice story..thanks.

Someone who puts ketchup on a hot dog should be arrested as a felon Then haul my sorry ass of to jail then. Nothing beats a good hot dog without some Heinz-John Kerry ketchup on it.

This is almost serendipitous. For some strange reason, last night I had my first and only hankering for hot dogs. I went to the market and bought a pack of Nathans. The large ones. Very tasty.
Being raised in the Cincy area, we can start a war about who's the best chili dogs:
Skyline, A&W, Gold Star - 3 way w/bean, 5 way...it goes on!

There's nothing like a good hotdog.
Add your favorite condiments. I'm partial to purple onions, spicy brown mustard and sharp cheddar cheese.
Delicious.

Is it Nathans that deep fries hot dogs? I'll bet they are great deep fried and talk about a heart attack in a bun. You probably can hear the arteries snapping shut.

Lowly hot dog???
Lowly???
A Chicago dog is manna from heaven!
And no, there's no ketchup on a Chicago dog:
- steamed poppy seed bun
- Vienna All-beef frank
- tomato wedges
- pickle relish of a colour that does not exist in nature
- sports (peppers)
- a touch of mustard
- and the secret ingredient, a dash of celery salt
Wally's in Park Ridge does a damned fine dog.

IMHO, Parky's has the best dogs in Chicago, and the best fries too.
Worst dogs: anything you buy at O'Hare.

That universe is expanding. Mr. Bodman said more and more Chicago-style hot dogs typically served on steamed poppy-seed buns, loaded with mustard, onions, neon-green relish, tomato, pickle, chili peppers and celery salt are being sold in places such as Phoenix, Houston, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale, Fla I have had Chicago-style hot dogs in Santa Fe, NM, of all places. The stand was near the state capitol and my daughter insisted on eating there after having eaten real, in Chicago, Chicago-style hot dogs. We had a place here in Okla. City but it suffered from bad management and is now closed. Food was pretty good, though. I always had one traditional and one kraut dog.

I bought a bottle of celery salt & took it to a stand in Santa Fe after finding out that they were unaware of the secret ingredient. Sure was nice being able to snag a decent dog there.

My ex was from Park Ridge, when we lived in Dallas there were a couple of good Chicago Dog places in Plano run by Chicago ex-pats. She turned me on to Chicago dogs years ago, and I've been a fan ever since.
She also had her mom send her pizza sauce from Chicago for the great pizzas she made.
