It DOES sound like Mom is a bit over-zealous in this case.

It's but a short step from prohibiting Christian gifts to your fellow schoolmates to completely outlawing any mention of Chritianity on the school grounds...

If anyone is allowed to hand out anything, then the Christian kid should be allowed to hand things out, too.
Period.
Stop it all.
Or allow it all.
In-between is discrimination.

It DOES sound like Mom is a bit over-zealous in this case. But absolutely on firm 1st Amendment grounds. What part of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" do they not understand?

The mother was no more overzealous in the case than any parent whose family member has been stripped of his first amendment rights.
How many freedoms would you recommend the school, the community, the courts, take away before action is taken to reverse the trend?
The price of freedom (and free speech) is eternal vigilance. And I might add, muscularly so.

It DOES sound like Mom is a bit over-zealous in this case. That was my first thought, and my second: "Well somebody has to make a stand. Traditional Christianity has been getting the shaft in the public education arena for years, despite the rise in lipservice to teeny-bopper pseudo-philosophies about tolerance and diversity. We all talk about doing something about it but for folks like me, at least, that never even leads to un-arsing the couch, due in large part to the fact that (the gods be thanked) I don't have to deal with this shiznit, not having any anklebiters myself."
So here's to Mom. Popping a cold one. \_/ \_/ \_/

It DOES sound like Mom is a bit over-zealous in this case. That's putting it mildly. She's spent 5 years fighting this crap, but she hasn't bothered to get her kid out of that school. The woman's an idiot.
