[history]
Kindergartners and first-graders may not distribute to their classmates gifts that bear a religious message, according to a ruling by a federal appeals court.
The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled in favor of a New Jersey elementary school in forbidding a boy from giving out pencils with the message "Jesus loves the little children" with a heart symbol substituted for the word love.

Down boy! You call Koestlers critique BS, yet you can't say what is BS about it.. You obviously not only are ignorant of our Religious History and Founding Documents, you have a reading comprehension problem too.
This was posted above in 186 - try reading a little more carefully:
"The continuous disasters of man's history are mainly due to his excessive capacity and urge to become identified with a tribe, nation, church or cause........"
If being identified with a tribe engenders disaster, what disaster did the tribe of Puritans who made up the Mayflower Compact contribute to?
If being identified with a nation engenders disaster, what disaster did the 13 Colonies and their desire to become a nation contribute to?
If being identified with a church engenders disaster, what disaster did the Christian Churches at our Founding and 223 years hence contribute to?
If being identified with a cause engenders disaster, what disaster did the cause of liberty and independence did our Founders contribute to?
You never answered a ONE of those questions that prove your application of Koestler to Americans of Faith and our history as the B.S. I just showed it for.
Nice try at obfuscation, but you lose.
Post these lies or denials.. You can't.
Wrong. I already did. Try going back and rereading what I've posted above.
Post your proofs. -- I know/understand those documents far better that you.
Obviously not, based on all your replies thusfar. You haven't answered or refuted one charge I've made to your assertions aside from your general dismissal of my 'fanaticism' that somehow negates any point I make in taking your position to task.
It's obvious I'm dealing with an intellectually unarmed and ignorant opponent in regards to this discussion. We're close to needing to apply Mathew 7:6 to you sir.

It's really strange that you believe your four 'bold' questions refute Koestlers point, in any logical way whatsoever.
But by all means dream on, and keep posting this drivel. You are only proving my points.

It's really strange that you believe your four 'bold' questions refute Koestlers point, in any logical way whatsoever. Wouldn't be because you are intellectually unarmed to comprehend that America itself refutes the entirety of Koestler's point.
But by all means dream on, and keep posting this drivel. You are only proving my points.
What points are those? The only point you've made is that Koestler's views are scripture to you.

"The continuous disasters of man's history are mainly due to his excessive capacity and urge to become identified with a tribe, nation, church or cause, and to espouse its credo uncritically and enthusiastically, even if its tenets are contrary to reason, devoid of self-interest and detrimental to the claims of self-preservation.
We are thus driven to the unfashionable conclusion that the trouble with our species is not an excess of aggression, but an excess capacity for fanatical devotion."
-Arthur Koestler
"America itself refutes the entirety of Koestler's point."

Incoherent, unproveable drivel.

According to the ruling, the child would have been allowed to distrubute the pencils so long as the teacher wasn't teaching.

Judge Scirica made a similar point, saying that schools can restrict speech in class or during school-sponsored events but should hold off when the speech occurs in hallways between classes or during free time.
As for culture wars, listen I'm fighting them. My child was well versed enough at the age of 6 to hold his own with reporters at the NY Times who were attempting to make a big issue out of the fact our local school provides space for a weekly meeting for children to learn about Christ.

No, she met the same end as another God hater named Jezzabel in the Bible, wild dogs ate her and left dung piles of her all over the country side. Kinda ironic ain't it.

Hey, our Founders are who they were and were probably mostly men of the Christian Faith. We can't change that. I doubt they purposely intended to insult anyone, but, despite (or perhaps because of) their faith in the Judeo-Christian God, they did manage to establish a Constitution and Bill of Rights guaranteeing ALL of us certain freedoms including freedom of religion and freedom of speech while prohibiting the government the power to restrict or deprive us of same. If that is ... offensive or insulting to some --- well, I just do not know what to say. I guess there was no constitutional provision to protect us from being insulted or offended.

This sort of prostelization has never been permitted in my knowledge. I always resented and tossed those little tracts that some self-indulged student would put on my desk in public school Are you capable of realizing that these two statements contradict each other?
