[history]
Toad gambling. Fireworks burning down tents. The bubonic plague. And the dust from 100,000 trampling feet coating everything.
Those are just a few stories waiting to be rehashed tonight when aging Boy Scouts gather to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1953 National Scout Jamboree held where Fashion Island now stands.

Cool !
I grew up in Newport and was always told stories about that jamboree....In the 70's I went to Farragut Idaho for what if I am correct was the 25th anniversary......
Enjoy

Fashion Island still has a commemorative plaque, with a map of the grounds showing where each state camped. It's at the mall entrance facing the coast, mounted at the top of the escalators from the parking lot.

To be exact, it's the escalators right next to Robinson's May. If you're driving up Newport Center Drive from PCH, they should be easy to see...you'll be headed right for them.

Instead, they'll meet at the Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel.
Forgetting Disney Corp's battle against the scouts. Have they won? Are there no 'morally straight' scouts?

This reminds me of that "Flintstones" episode where they meet up with the Boy Scout Jamboree & end up singing, "It's a Small World" with kids in their various languages.
