CHEYENNE - Laramie County Community College basketball coach Queint Higgins has been charged with domestic violence and battery.

Higgins, 32, allegedly punched his wife Jenny Higgins in the stomach with a closed fist during an argument at the couple's East Sixth Street home on Aug. 31.

"Jenny told officers that her husband has hit her on prior occasions as well," Laramie County assistant district attorney Tillie Routh-McGee wrote.

Cheyenne Police officer James Eddy reported that Jenny Higgins' stomach was red and swollen when he was called to the home.

The couple told him they had been drinking that day.

The Alabama-born Higgins was arrested Monday when he turned himself in at the Laramie County jail about 3 p.m. He pleaded not guilty to the charge Tuesday with his attorney, David Serelson.

Circuit Judge Denise Nau released Higgins on his own recognizance, but she ordered that he not drink or be within one block of the couple's home until this matter is resolved. He can have no contact with Jenny Higgins and can leave Cheyenne only for business.

Domestic violence is a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $750 fine.

Higgins, who is entering his second season at LCCC, played as a forward at the University of Wyoming from 1989-1994.

I guess some people are tougher than others. If I drink for a half hour I'm ready for a nap.

Then there are two people like this who want to drunk up and fight like this (and I'd bet it went both ways). Too bad for this guy, the two of them did a dumb thing, and he'll pay. The penalty, as we know, is more serious than what is stated in the article.
