Bush is losing support on right (LIar Alert)

The criticisms of President Bush aren't surprising: He's bungling the war in Iraq; his budget deficits are disastrous; he's trampling civil liberties; his spending plans are misguided.

But the source of those criticisms is: They're increasingly coming from conservatives.

Think tank studies, op-ed columns, talk radio callers and opinion polls show conservatives' disenchantment with Bush's policies and priorities has been climbing, although nowhere near as much as it has among liberals. And although those dismayed conservatives might rally round him in next year's presidential election, his campaign aides are keeping a close eye on the trend.

"I hate to say they've got nowhere else to go, but I think most conservatives will stick with the president," said former Rep. Vin Weber, who is co-chair of Bush's reelection campaign in Minnesota and four other states. "Conservative voters across the country will conclude backing the president is imperative. Of course, it's impossible not to have a few dissident voices."

One of those voices belongs to Daniel Cragg, a college student from Eagan who in June launched a Web site called conservativesagainstbush.com "to propound the conservative principals this administration has forsaken."

The site has been averaging about 200 hits a day, Cragg said. "The idea is to get the word out about how far off track he's gotten," he said. "A lot of people are mad about what's going on."

It's true that Bush offends some conservatives, especially Libertarians and money conservatives. But IMHO he has done as much as he can, given the political difficulties and a virulently hostile press. He has been sound on the basic issues.

Bush didn't bungle the War in Iraq, or the War on Terror in general. The Road Map, though, is a disaster.

On the domestic front, Bush didn't bungle tax cuts.

Bush's handling of the Illegal Alien issue, however, has been abysmal.

Still not a peep from this President on the fifteen states and counting that are issuing drivers' licenses to Illegals, or the widespread acceptance of Mexican matricula consular ID cards.

Us on the right have no other place to go. It is the mushy, finger in the air, middle that has departed. The year long onslaught by the gimmies, aided by most in the media, is in full swing and by election time should be at fever pitch.

It is a tribute to GW that he is still at 50% approval.

What an outright lie. The only real complaint I have heard is that he is spending way too much and that he won't fight for conservative judges who follow the law.

How about his education policies? The No Child Left Behind Act tramples on the rights of states, towns, and parents. It creates a mind-numbing tangle of federal regulations that cannot possibly be followed. And Bush thinks it's great.

Thanks for posting this article. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise...and I live in Minneapolis. I quit buying the Red Star Tribune during the impeachment hearings of Kaptain Klinton. The bias of this 'paper' has to be among the worst of news outlets in the nation. I hope it gives all the libs a false sense of security. They live in the land of illusion and smoke and mirrors anyway. I know. My neighborhood is full of them. As I write this, I can see the Howard Dean bumper sticker on my neighbor's car across the street. She and her 'partner' are lesbians. Go figure. Oh, and go Howie!

This could be a pivotal election issue. Foreigners occuping high tech jobs when American citizens are out of work IS a big issue.

This is the reason President Bush has lost my vote in the next Presidential election. I doubt that I am the only one who will repay the President's back-of-the-hand to American workers with a no-show or a vote for the Rat party come election day.

This entire jobs thing, including illegal immigration, is the Republican Achilles Heel. One would thinks tacticians as astute as Karl Rove would see that. On the other hand, maybe they think the big campaign donations will override the problems with cash and advertising.

Maybe the President needs to look at all the H1B and L1 technology workers who can not vote for him and all the out of work technology workers who may not vote for him before he makes promises like this.

IMO President Bush has shown great courage and resolve in the time since Sept. 11, 2001. I cannot remember anyone having so many problems stacked on their plate. The ankle-biters should be ignored. He aint perfect but considering the alternatives he's dang sure got my vote.

I never understand articles like this. The lefties always build a litmus test so they think these things are important. It may go back to right after the October Revolution when the various factions butchered one another over minutae (Stacanovites?).

I am critical of Bush. His failure to seal the Mexican border and to round up the wetbacks among us is criminal. The terrorists that sneak across this border with other illegals will bring another 9/11 to our country, all because Bush refuses to comply with his oath to defend the nation.

That doesn't mean, however, that I'd not continue to support him or would ever believe, much less vote for, one of the sleazy, lying dems (and, what other kind is there?).

Anecdotes from Free Republic are not worthy of a tangible support claim. If you just read FR before the 2000 election you would have thought Pat Buchanan was going to be elected President.

I do however, agree that H1-B visas and the shipping of high end jobs overseas is bad economic policy. It happened to me this year and I am still looking.

You are sooo right. The former "Commander in Heat" Clinton is soo jealous that he didn't have have the problems that Bush had that he had to go all the way to Kosovo to get people to cheer him. Since Bush was in office I have seen nothing but jealousy on the Democreeps's part. Jealous of Bush and his handling of 9/11. Jealous of Bush's quick take over of Iraq. What industry/position were you in, and how long have you been looking? Are you looking nationwide for work? (I don't have any solutions for you, I am just curious).

In my case, I got laid off twice in Dallas, and moved to Illinois in 2001 after an eight month period of unemployment.
