The FBI is cracking down on ads in Chinese newspapers allegedly placed by members of Chinese organized crime offering a U.S. marriage and citizenship for a sizable sum, reports the Chinese-language World Journal.
Members of Chinese criminal organizations reportedly address the ads to persons in China wishing to immigrate to the country. When a marriage partner is found, the criminals help negotiate the sum between the two sides and take a hefty cut. The cost of the "fake marriage" starts at $70,000 for a single person; $130,000 if one or two children are included; and $30,000-$50,000 for any additional members. Federal officers are combing the papers daily looking for such ads.
Meanwhile, the flow of illegal South Korean immigrants attempting to enter the United States via the Canadian border continues to increase, reports the Korean language Korea Daily in Los Angeles.
The Border Patrol in Spokane, Washington arrested eight South Koreans attempting to cross the Canadian border on Sept. 7 outside of Danville, Washington. The group included two children ages 9 and 11 trying to join their parents who had also entered illegally and are now living in San Francisco.
The children were the youngest Koreans the Border Patrol has apprehended, said Paul Jones, a border patrol agent. They are now in the custody of a childrens protection center in Seattle, pending a deportation hearing.
The Canadian border has become a more common way for South Koreans to enter the United States after Canada and South Korea adopted a no-visa requirement in 1993. Last month, a van attempting to smuggle 10 South Koreans across the U.S.-Canadian border overturned during a high-speed chase in Washington, killing one and injuring three others.

I just got one of those sinking feelings. You know the kind best represented by a cartoon in which a fisherman has a hole in his boat that is quickly filling his boat -- as he is feverishly using a teaspoon to scoop water out and over the side of the boat.

It's a terrrible policy in many ways --- this lax immigration. For one --- the S. Koreans need to fight for their own country, prevent it from being taken over. Sure fleeing to the USA is a simple easy solution for all these immigrants but what they need to do is fight for and keep freedom in their own countries.

Ever wonder how many "South" Korean "immigrants" are in fact "North" Koreans?...Think about it.

This whole open borders thing is giving me a big,fat headache. Same here. The US is experiencing an invasion and very little is being done about it. As far as I'm concerned "homeland security" is a joke and I have no idea how any government official can even talk about it without insulting everyone's intelligence.

I wasn't aware that South Korea was such a hell-hole that people were seeking to escape.
Heck, I didn't even think they liked us very much over there.

Far be it from me to complain. Bet you fellow FReepers that the S. Koreans only want the jobs the mexicans don't want. So this is good for the owners of orange groves and the like. And that'll keep the fruit I buy cheap, which in turn will keep me happy.
What more could a guy want?
