Saudi Diplomat Speaks of U.S. 'Intellectual Arrogance'
Reuters ^ | September 19, 2003

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States said on Friday that his country was staunchly opposed to terrorism and had moved to discipline the clerics who had helped spread an anti-Western message before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

``Nine-eleven shook me to the roots because the confidence that was shaken was not with Congress or the media, it was with the American people,'' Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz told a foreign affairs group here.

Bin Sultan said that the attacks were also a wake-up call that his government needed to move to address the attitudes of intolerance held by some in the kingdom.

``The bad news is that we found some ugly things do exist,'' said Bin Sultan. ``The good news is that there was not nearly as much as you have been led to believe. If you watch the media you think everybody and their mother is an (Osama) bin Laden supporter, and that's not true.''

But in remarks that were carefully balanced, Bin Sultan, a former fighter pilot, also said that America's dominance in world affairs brought risks of its own.

``I personally feel it's not in America's interest to be the only game in town. It costs money and no one says thank you,'' he said during an address to the World Affairs Council.

Bin Sultan also said he saw ``a little bit of intellectual arrogance,'' in the popular American notion that democracy was a ``cure all'' for all the world's problems.

``It didn't solve all your problems here,'' the ambassador said when asked his thoughts about U.S. efforts to make the Middle East more hospitable to democracy.

``My family has been in leadership (in Saudi Arabia) since 1747. You can call us many things, but politically stupid we are not,'' he said. ``We are not a holy monarchy. We are a working monarchy and every day we have our hand on the pulse.''

Bin Sultan, who has served as Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. since 1983, even joked about the two Bush presidencies: ``It shows you guys are going in the direction toward monarchy. So don't knock it.''

Bin Sultan has played a key role in navigating the relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia, which have grown increasingly tense since Sept. 11, when 15 of the 19 suicide hijackers were identified as Saudi nationals. While the Saudi government says it has done everything possible to assist with the U.S. war on terror, many U.S. lawmakers have criticized the kingdom for providing only limited cooperation.

Bin Sultan, who rarely speaks in public, also used his remarks on Friday to defend the U.S.-led war in Iraq

``Everybody in the world wanted that regime to collapse. This president had the guts to go and do it,'' he said.

Sounds more like it to me....

What a piece of crap, are his REMARKS. Anyone that thinks we are moving toward a monarchy when 50 states and the territories have a vote is a red herring to cover his butt with the stupid reporters that hang on the words of spin doctors.

Reuters is part of the same cabal that held the Iraqi ministers in such high esteem, because it was easy to write their story.

Ever notice how the news media thinks missionaries are weak for their beliefs, but reporters are strong for theirs. A missionary would die for their belief and a reporter will take you to dinner.

2 Saudis immigrate to America and make a bet on who can become the most American after a year.

A year passes and the 2 get together to compare notes.

One says "I am the most American. My kid is in little league, I have an American wife, and I speak perfect english, without an accent".

The other one says

"F**# you towelhead!"

The Saudis practice intellectual abstinence - of course as Wahhabis their koran is the prophalactic of their souls..so in their human relationships nothing productive (other than gas) ever emanates from their culture either.
imo

``The bad news is that we found some ugly things do exist,'' said Bin Sultan.

They don't just "exist," you self-righteous, sanctimonious a##hole. Your monarchy, in an effort to retain power, has spewed hatred against the United States and Israel, and is the actual cause of most of the "ugly things" you "found."

``It didn't solve all your problems here,'' the ambassador said when asked his thoughts about U.S. efforts to make the Middle East more hospitable to democracy.

What a ridiculous argument! Worthy of a democrat!! If a man is starving to death, has a nasty skin rash and asthma, we shouldn't treat him to a hearty meal because "that won't solve all his problems." Well, your royal heinous, it's a damned good start.

That would be every last one of them.

``Nine-eleven shook me to the roots because the confidence that was shaken was not with Congress or the media, it was with the American people,''

You should be shaking.

Bin Sultan said that the attacks were also a wake-up call that his government needed to move to address the attitudes of intolerance held by some in the kingdom.

You mean like the household phrase of "KILL THE AMERICAN INFIDELS?"

``The bad news is that we found some ugly things do exist,'' said Bin Sultan. ``The good news is that there was not nearly as much as you have been led to believe. If you watch the media you think everybody and their mother is an (Osama) bin Laden supporter, and that's not true.''

Yeah it is true. The bad news is that every Saudi and their mother not already killed by Al Qaida, do support bin Laden.

But in remarks that were carefully balanced, Bin Sultan, a former fighter pilot, also said that America's dominance in world affairs brought risks of its own.

Up yours Sand Nazi, never mind "intellectual arrogance." how about a little intellectual honesty?

``I personally feel it's not in America's interest to be the only game in town.

I think the "Muslim Mafia Monarchy" knows a thing or two about being the only game in town.

Bin Sultan also said he saw ``a little bit of intellectual arrogance,'' in the popular American notion that democracy was a ``cure all'' for all the world's problems.

"Been Insultin'" is aptly named, as evidenced by the fact that his every word, including "and" and "the", insults OUR intelligence.

``My family has been in leadership (in Saudi Arabia) since 1747. You can call us many things''

OH, BELIEVE ME, WE DO!

"but politically stupid we are not"

Really?..........Let me see if I have this right:

1) You routinely gouge us on oil prices and keep all your people's money from oil revenue.

2) You blame the poverty suffered by your deliberately-kept-ignorant peasants on the "infidels" (anyone not wahabbi, but mostly Jews and Americans)

3) You teach the brutally repressed and poor peasant children in the "madrasses" nothing but wahabbi dogma and hatred for all other citizens of the world, and that they should be killed.

4) You overtly and covertly support terrorism financially, and turn a blind eye as 15 of your "best and brightest" murderers fly fully loaded airliners into buildings full of innocents in the US.

Yup....regular Political Einsteins! (oops, sorry about the Yiddish reference)

Bin Sultan, who has served as Saudi Ambassador to the U.S. since 1983, even joked about the two Bush presidencies: ``It shows you guys are going in the direction toward monarchy. So don't knock it.''

I really am at a loss of words on this one....please feel free.....

Bin Sultan has played a key role in navigating the relations between the United States and Saudi Arabia, which have grown increasingly tense since Sept. 11, when 15 of the 19 suicide hijackers were identified as Saudi nationals. Why is this b@$+@rd not in GITMO?

Thank you very much for finally saying in public what they wouldn't say before the war. I will still hold my judgement about Saudia Arabia for now. We have no idea what might be going on in private that cannot be allowed to reach the public. And, if that regime were overthrown by the fanatics can you even imagine what would happen in that part of the world.

Boy is this ever the truth. Our recent flirtation with being the "benevolent world hegemon" (in the neocons memorable phrase) will (and is) quickly degenerating.

We must return to the ideals of the Founders and not "go forth in search of monsters to destroy".

My own preference would be for a candidate who announces that by the end of his first term, all US troops overseas would be brought back to the USA and all foreign aid would cease.

I will make some off the cuff predictions of the outcome of your plans:

South Korea would fall to North Korea.
Israel would collapse and six million more Jews would die.
Taiwan would fall to Chinese Pacific rim hegemony.
Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand would fall to Chinese hegemony.
Japan would fall to Chinese hegemony or become another nuclear power far exceeding what France is today. It would not be our friend.
Iran and Saudi Arabia would gain MIRV ICBM technology for oil and money.
South America would go 100% communist.
Gasoline would be $20 per gallon within months.
Africa would be one large Islamic colony.
The Philippines would fall under Shar'ia law.
Precious metals required for defense and industry would be unavailable.
International capitalism would falter, perhaps for a generation.
Several billion people would finally lose all hope for freedom.
Within a generation, 600,000,000 innocent people would be butchered either for refusing to convert to Islam or for their position and class.
Russia and China would sell nuclear weapons to the highest bidder for oil.
Four to five major chemical and biological attacks would wrack inland American cities within three years.
At least four American seaboard and river cities would be struck one by one with nuclear blasts from suicide boats and submarines -- within 15 years.
Americans would look to Europe for help and find none.
Dark ages worse than the milennium would creep over western civilization.
Fascist China would emerge as the world's ultrapower.
