You humble me. Thanks, most heartily, for your kind words. I'll aim to live up to them.

Thanks for the day-early birthday present. (c8

I'm being slow to respond because I want to respond more fully. But I do want to say that I believe 1 Corinthians 13, which says that love hopes all things, believes all things. So I take you at your word, and look forward to our mutually enjoying the fruits of your change of heart. And I certainly do forgive you for what you ask.

I mean to respond more fully later. Please be patient, I'm at work.

In the meantime, I'd offer you this essay I wrote on abortion, called The Bible and the Bull's-Eye on the Baby. You'll note the copyright dates; this has been my earnest position for years.

My way-too-brief statement is that I think the point of departure is not where you and I want to get, but how to get there.

I wish you too a good day.

Dan

Duh! Because he's a conservative!

Well Duh!....... if he's a conservative, one that's been in politics all his adult life in CA, then why is it that the CA Conservatives reject him at such a high rate..... 70% or so?.. You want to try that one on? What is it that they know about McClintock that keeps them on the sidelines when it comes to supporting him?

Currently, Bustamante is the favorite among Democratic voters (49%); Republicans prefer Schwarzenegger (47%) to McClintock (24%); and independents are more evenly divided between Bustamante with 24 percent and Schwarzenegger with 21 percent, while 12 percent support McClintock. Nearly half of Latinos support Bustamante (49%). Among white voters 28 percent would vote for Schwarzenegger and 25 percent for Bustamante; 15 percent support McClintock. Bustamante’s support is highest among liberals (50%), Schwarzenegger’s is highest among conservatives (42%), and moderates are divided between Bustamante (24%) and Schwarzenegger (25%). Although McClintock gets his highest support from conservatives, they favor Schwarzenegger even more (29% to 42%).

McClintock signed the Marriage Protection Pledge. Arnold refused to sign it.

Why didn't McClintock vote on the "Domestic Partners" legislation? Any ideas? Where was he?

skeletons in the closet...
i dunno what kind...
girls from the gambling consortium?

who knows?
Maybe we just don't like him because of how he comes off.
Smug, arrogant, smartassed and mouthy.

For a guy who has been in state political life so long... he really isn't liked very well... statewide. I have noticed that many of his most vocal supporters, here on FreeRepublic, are OUT-of-staters of the keyesnian or brigadiers genre.

Okay, I have a few moments.

Slander is a form of lying. You slander me when you call me a supporter of abortion, when you tell me I must disown my screen name and tagline, SIMPLY BECAUSE I plan to vote for Schwarzenegger. For instance:

Here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/986033/posts?page=574#574

...and here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/983887/posts?page=58#51

You assert I am ignorant about what God says about abortion. If you've read my essay, I hope you've come to another view.

It is possible to share a common goal, but believe in different routes to that goal. For instance, say I'm a general in WWII, discussing strategy. I say that the objective is to take out Hitler. So I say, put a troop on the shore of Germany, and tell them to go straight to Hitler and kill him.

"We can't do that!" cry your fellow-generals. "They'd all be killed! We haven't the resources to mount that sort of attack! It won't win the war if we just sacrifice all our men in a vain effort to do the impossible in one swooping attack!"

"Unamerican sellouts!" I shout in their faces. "Don't you believe in God? Don't you believe He can do miracles? Why are you supporting Hitler? I loathe so-called Americans who support Hitler!"

I won't go on and on; if that doesn't make my point, another hundred words won't, either.

You think abortion should be eliminated as an elective procedure? So do I. But we might have different ideas on how to get there.

And because I believe that a man whose abortion views are mostly repellant and abhorrent to me is nonetheless the better choice for governor in this election, does not make me a hypocrite, a sellout, or a non-Christian.

Now, beyond that, I'll have to ask you to continue to be patient. I wrote a small essay about the choice, as a conservative Christian, at the start of this election -- but I can't find it!

However, I have for some time been planning a lengthier essay setting out my own rationale for my decision. If I can come up with that, I'll remember to let you know.
