Are you still quoting the old LATimes poll?
The 14% is from the poll released today.

14% is not a gain from %18.

I think they'll be down even further soon.

Yes, I would think among the Times version of the 18% number, that at least 35% of current Tomnbots could be rational enough to feel betraying California in support of Tom would not be ethical. As this race gets near Oct 7th, I think Arnold will pick up another 5-6%.

We are called sane conservatives. We don't dream about what ifs with a candidate who couldn't win.
If Tom could win, was the front-runner, I would have Arnold go. But Arnold is the big gun and Tom is just a loser who doesn't want to go and is burning his future in Republican politics over this race.
I see Tom McClintock having to switch after this race to either the Democrat party or some more fringe group like a third party, maybe a Libertarian.

Rational, balanced, logical, intelligent, functional, sane Republicans don't vote McClintock who:
#1 Can't win.
#2 Wants to help Bustamante.
#3 Hasn't listened to the CA Republican party or the White House.
#4 Has been sabotaging the race in favor of Bustamante against the Republican party.
I do question a lot of things about McClintock supporters who think getting a radical Democrat elected is some great salute to FR or conservatism.

I have no problem with the Conservative positions and that Tom put himself out there in this race.
The over-riding issue and concern is we don't want to get a Radical Militant Democrat elected because a percentage of thick headed people will gladly throw their vote down the hole of a loser and thereby get the radical militant Democrat elected by denying the front-runner the vote.
There is no primary and CA is dealing with one Bustamante against at this point two Republican candidates. So the Republican vote is split.
Being Tom is unelectable in THIS race, common sense says get Arnold who is a fiscal conservative elected rather than the totally radical militant Democrat.
The fervent Tom folks can get their panties in a wad and hold their breath till they turn all shades of blue, but the FACT of life is that Tom McClintock is no ELECTABLE IN THIS RACE AND ARNOLD IS.
In addition, what is stupid is Tom has destroyed his future in this state party by not listening to the White House or the California Republican party about getting out.
Tom is doing no good in any way by being in this race.
#1 He has destroyed his future.
#2 His splitting the vote could easily get the Militant Radical Democrat elected.
#3 He has to leave the party for some fringe third party like the Libertarians (also known for getting Dems elected)
This doesn't serve the people of California or Tom. Tom's behavior and presence only benefits Democrats at this time, so why is Tom doing this?
I think he's jumping parties and knows this.
I think he wants to sabotage Arnold in favor of the Radical Democrat.
I also do question his mental state and consider him incapable of leading ever again.
