My observation is that he ( DIL's dad) isn't particularly bright.. not really brave. rather a macho, red neck attitude. well, he was okay this time.
I love Carteret .. one of my fav beaches is emerald Isle & Bear Island.

You're so welcome, netmilsmom. I'll bow out for now. I sent a link over to yesterday's thread. It was easier than going through and pinging everyone.
It was great of you to start this thread. I'll be back later on. God bless!

Greetings, I'm one mile southeast from Old Town Alexandria, VA. The lower Potomac's troubles probably aren't over. I'm near the headwaters. The river and all tributaries are very high, although actual flood damage seems pretty minor here.
The problem is that all parts of the system from here to the Bay got dumped in last night, and as of this morning the lower Potomac was flowing backwards because the Bay, already high, was rising again with the tide. A cousin of mine on the Bay shore (Pasadena, MD) was stuck on the second floor with furniture floating on the first as of this AM.
What happens in this kind of situation is the whole drainage basin becomes one big traffic backup, with the maximum flood surge taking 2-3 days to reach the DC area.
So there's probably more to come.
To: Coastie
Thanks Coastie! Good to have you back!

The worst is over at this end. My house and my mother's empty but still unsold place escaped unscathed. Still, "Lookout below!"

From what little I have been able to garner about the lower end of the DelMarVA, I'm one very lucky lady. The lower Eastern shore counties of MD and the 2 in VA took a bit of a beating (not as bad as the other side of the bay, but pretty bad)
HS lives in one of those counties, and CR has property in one that got hit hard with flooding yesterday, but he lives on the other side of the Bay that got hit so much worse. Haven't seen where either of them have yet checked in. Prays everything is alright for both.
After all the descriptions yesterday of how a tornado can come through an area and leave one house undamaged and anotyer flattened.....well in a way I can unerstand that a bit better now.
The small bits of local information I was able to receive from the radio this mornings lead me to beleive the flooding started a little over a mile south of me, and probably no more than 10 miles north of me.
I haven't ventured out anywhere, because even as late as noon authorities were still asking people to stay off the roads unless necessary, so I don't know what it looks like elsewhere in the county. But walking outside, other than the one snapped tree, I can't tell that it was anything but a beautiful late summer day.
Considering the size of her, and regardless of whether it was a CAT 1 or 2, there was a great deal of damage, and massive flooding, there was thankfully little loss of life. I pray for the families of them all. But there is a special prayer for those who lost their lives through circumstances, not stupidity. Like the lineman trying to get power to people in NC and the man who was in his house when the tree came down on it. That happened less than 10 miles from me.
As I said I am very, very lucky, and truly humbled by the concern expressed for my unannounced disappearance yesterday.
