Schwarzenegger is failing to attract independent voters, who correctly perceive him as inarticulate and incompetent to run the state of California. So he ends up having to run against McClintock, because that's where the votes are.

Maybe it?s just me. But every time I hear a candidate talk about party loyalty, I want to tune him or her out. I don?t really care, ok? I care about the state, its problems, its future. I do not care whether Arnold thinks McClintock is a good Republican or a bad Republican. That?s not what this election is about.

Exactly. Demanding a Republican loyalty oath is sure to turn of independents and possible crossover Democrats. And it rings hollow to conservatives who Remember that Arnold supported Clinton during impeachment.

Arnold should just fire his handlers and be himself, and let things fall where they may. That strategy worked for Jesse Ventura.

I think Arnold answered it perfectly. Tom McClintock has thrown his lot with the Democrats in a desperate bid for momentum- he should be ashamed of himself. He is letting Democrat special interests boost his candidacy; interests who know full well that McClintock cannot win. This unseemly partnership that McClintock has forged with the Left will doom us on October 7th. But we know now that McClintock doesn't care Republicans lose- he has said himself that if Democrats win, it'll give him a better shot in 2006- and that, after all ,is ALL that matters to Tom McClintock.

Ambition can be a very ugly thing.

Try again. McClintock took $1 million from an Indian tribe loyal to Democrats. The tribe, like everyone else, knows McClintock will lose. But McClintock is glad to let Democrats use him as a spoiler because he's building towards a 2006 run, and he needs Democrats to win this year to make that possible. Don't believe me- he said as much to Dan Burton.

That is a lie.

Sort of.
The Indians are apparently running more that $1 million worth of pro-McClintock ads on TV.

Tom did not "take" any money, but he is benefits from it, nevertheless.

See also, from www.sacbee.com/insider:

Odd man out could be lucky one

If the Indian gaming money does for McClintock what it did for Bustamante, this race might be over -- with Schwarzenegger the runaway winner. After weeks of bad publicity surrounding his effort to accept huge contributions from the casinos despite state law limiting donations to $21,200, Bustamante has seen his negatives skyrocket toward 50 percent and his standing in the horserace polls decline. Now McClintock stands to be the beneficiary of at least $1 million in television advertising, perhaps more, paid for my the same Morongo Band that already has contributed to Cruz. You could say they are hedging their bets by backing various major candidates with whom they agree on gambling issues. You could also say they are using McClintock as a tool to undercut support for Schwarzenegger and elect Bustamante governor. If Schwarzenegger can get that message out, it could help him on two scores. First, it shows conservative Republicans that McClintock really is a spoiler in the race. Why else would the tribes that clearly prefer Democrat Bustamante support McClintock so generously? Second, the big spending fits into Schwarzenegger’s theme that the “special interests” are taking over Sacramento. There is no bigger donor these days than the casino tribes, and here they are playing on both sides in the race for governor. Even though the money being spent for McClintock isn’t going directly into his coffers, it’s still meant to help him, or Cruz. And the whole thing looks dirty. If Schwarzenegger can’t turn all of this to his own advantage, he probably doesn’t deserve to win.

Read and weep. Sorry to spoil your image of McClintock, but he's a tool of the Left. He's got no chance- he's taking the ship down with him. McClintock takes tribe's money

LOL. Deny, Deny, Deny. Tribe set to spend $1 million on McClintock All McClintock has to do is tell them "No". But all McClintock cares about is himself. It'll dawn on you...after the election is over and Bustamante is our new Governor.

So let me get this straight, Tom McClintock allows people to give him campaign support--so he must be killed...

Huh??? where did I ever say he should be "killed"? Arnold Schwarzenegger is for murdering babies, agreeable to tax increases, is for gay marriage, and is against killing the regulations that are causing businesses to leave the state--so he must be elected...

1. No Governor can overturn Roe vs. Wade
2. Arnold is on record as opposing "gay marriage", but again this will be decided by the SCOTUS.
3. No Governor can repeal the "Brady Bill"

Read and weep.

I read it... and I'm not weeping.
Instead, I'm laughing at your idiotic interpretation

Nowhere does that article state what you alleged.

Furthermore, I would support McClintock's acceptance of contributions from tribes. McClintock believes in limited government (something Arnold still needs to learn). With respect to Indian Tribes, he supports their sovereignty. Why wouldn't they support him?

Arnold has accepted over $3,000,000.00, mostly from Real Estate developers. Some of those same developers hold state land leases for sovereign land that earn them big bucks (Marinas, etc.) Some receive special loans from the State to build more 'low income' housing (to support the illegal immigrants that Arnold wants to grant permanent work permits). Others live off of 'Section 8' housing subsidies. Arnies contributors are sucking in government money (OUR tax dollars), and has the chutzpah to say he won't take 'special interest money'.

Spare me your hypocrisy !

I like the fact that you made up the figure of $3M regarding contributions made to Arnold from real estate developers. I'd like to believe you have a credible source for that, I really would. The Indian tribes don't want McClintock to win, they know he cannot win; their chief lobbyist is the campaign manager for Bustamante. What's troubling is that McClintock is taking the ship down with him- running attack ads against Arnold. But of course, that's his plan all along. As McClintock told Burton, he wants a Democrat to win in 2003, so he has a real chance in 2006. Just digusting and his supporters should abandon him over it.

He could have used the moment to say how this showed that the Indians have become the biggest, baddest special interest in Sacramento, and that by helping McClintock and Bustamante both they were playing a cynical game and proving that he, Schwarzenegger, is the man the special interests fear most.

Well gee wiz Wally, I think Dan needs to take off his (R)nold Consulting Cap and put on his Thinking Cap. (R)nold took big money in support or his Proposition last year from both the tribes and from Teachers Unions, he is courting the Teachers Union currently, and doesn't want to alienate or motivate another special interest. Typical Rinold, he has taken more special interest money from the head of Telemundo to the land barrons on the coasts to the cops that he had to give back to ever blather about this subject.

Course he's not actually having to be cross examed in these claims, so Dan's hope of a nastier (R)nold could come true. After all, a debate is the only way that all the hypocracy of (R)nold could be exposed.
