Don't agree that wanting your children (or hoping) will marry own race, religion, etc is racist, necessarily. It could be; however it could also be just not wanting them let in for the culture hassle they would get from both sides. And there would be some kind of hassles on a regular basis, added to the already long list of juggling work, bills, time, money and how to spend it, whose family to visit (both might take offense), and on and on.

I'm not surprised that we start to see students "rebelling" in this way. It was inevitable as more and more liberal hypocracy creeped in. Teenagers are notorious for noting adult hypocracy and keen on rebelling to what they see as the status quo. As long as liberalism infests the school, I think we can be prepared to see more and more students "call them on it".

The high school has dealt with thorny racial issues in the recent past. In 2001, a black teacher found a noose made out of a shoelace hanging on the doorknob of his classroom. Tensions mounted again last year when a roped noose was found dangling from a redwood tree on campus.

Funny how a noose is automatically assumed to be rasist??? Why would a noose be anymore rasist than a gun? Or an electric chair?

I hope this girl's club becomes MORE POPULAR

Sort of like that t-shirt of the "fighting whities" a couple years back. They tried to insult whites by using that as a mascot and it kind of backfired. If there really were Caucasian clubs, you'd see more Hispanics than not trying to join them and probably blacks too. Sort of like the neighborhoods --- there are black, hispanic, and white and other neighborhoods --- but the only ones where people sue to get into are the white neighborhoods.

I hate the whole division by race thing. It assumes that blacks, whites and Aisians are all self contained monolithic units, marching in lockstep with all others of their race when nothing could be further from the truth.

I was brought up in an eastern Massachusetts mill town where ethnic and nationality based social clubs were very strong. We had the British Club, The Sons of Italy, the Portugeese Club, the Sons of Greece, Turnverin Hall (German), the Lithuanian Club, etc.

These were all places where folks got together, drank, smoked and spoke the old languages while celebrating their native ancient customs, unless it was St Patricks Day when we all turned Irish.

They all assimilated and were proud of both their heritage and their American citizenship.

I never heard of a Lebanese Club or a Liberian Club or a Korean Club.

did they discern the intent? I don't know. Was the teacher being as a-hole and that was students' revenge? A noose is not necessarily racist, and a confrontation between a black person and a white person is not always a racial event.
