JetBlue 'Data Rape': 5m Passengers Have Privacy Violated
Don't Spy On Us ^

In September of 2002, JetBlue Airways secretly gave the Transportation Security Administration the full travel records of 5 million JetBlue customers. This sensitive travel data was then turned-over to a private security contractor for analysis, the results of which were presented at a security conference earlier this year and then posted on the Internet.
JetBlue 'fesses-up in this Wired article:

I flew JetBlue once, from Seattle to Milwaukee with a stop in Minnesota. Their ticketing lacked the automation you would expect. The service help was unusually rude in Milwaukee and we had lengthy stops each time in Minneapolis that were unscheduled. Their terminal in Minneapolis was dirty and too small to accomodate all the travellers. We had to check one bag that easil would have fit in the overhead as it did on the outgoing trip. All in all an experience I do not want to repeat, even if we did save about $40 for for travellers over another carrier. And now my records are released. Unbelievable.

I hope the schmucks that are responsible get all their personal data including their girlfriends' data posted on the net.

Is this any way to run an airline?

But, what could these 5 million records possibly establish that would be of use to the government?
Certainly, any bad guys would be traveling with marticula like ID, so there would be no matches. Sure, there might be some common 'phone numbers, addresses, and, maybe, credit card numbers, but what would that tell them.?
