Their argument can be as simple as "I consider myself to be an adult (or I want others to think of me as an adult). Therefore, I'll drink what is legal for the adults."

This is contradicted by the fact that the ratio of alcohol use to pot use is 2.5 times LOWER among teens than among adults; by your theory it should be higher.

No, my theory gives one possible reason, not a number.

The ratio of alcohol use to pot use is going to be higher for adults because alcohol is legal for adults.
