... three men were detained and that they are linked to Tayssir Alouni, a journalist for the Arabic-language TV station al-Jazeera who is under arrest in Spain. It will be interesting to follow this to see how the Al-Jazeera connection to al-Qaida develops.

There is something very curious about the Arab presence in Spain's the Costa Esmeralda around Torremolinos. Both Al Qaida and Algerian Islamists seem to have coexisted quite nicely with the Saudi royal family members who have villas in the region. One wonders if the Muslims consider Spain neutral territory, or if there has been a longstanding modus vivendi between the two (ostensibly opposed) Saudi factions.

Thanks for the post, jp. The judge is series, I think.
No trial date was set for those in Spain. Under this country's law, the judge's indictment means he has enough evidence for a trial. But there is no deadline and he can continue to investigate for months or longer. Garzon wrote that Spain served "as a place or base for resting, preparation, indoctrinating, support and financing" al-Qaida.
