"Hurricane Opal, October 1995; I don't think I'll ever forget it. It moved inland so fast that it was still at hurricane strength by time it got to I-20 headed northbound." Opal dang near beat my record driving time from the "redenck Riviera".
Like you Michael, even though I've been through two tornadoes, I'll never forget it.

I remember that. Camille killed many people. It reached into the VA mountains and claimed lives.

I heard last night that New Bern locked down.
To: Howlin
It is STILL over a lot of water. It'll start to weaken now - too much of the storm has hit land to strengthen (or even hold steady).

As of 2:00pm EST, more than 600,000 people without power in Virginia.

Just got off the phone with my dad in Jacksonville. They haven't lost power yet. Daddy said the winds were gusting around 50mph. He said it seemed to be easing off a bit.
Here in the Raleigh area, it's starting to pick up, and my power flickered again.

Shep is on now *drool* and he just said reporters are the dumbest people on earth. (he was talking about the ones playing in the wind tunnels like goldblatt was but he said "we" instead of "them")
To: Mo1
One thing about this storm is it's moving. So that means we won't have to watch the same "coming ashore on the beach" video over and over.

Mr. Conservative4Ever just came into my office laughing and saying he would pay money to see Geraldo stupe down in the sand and draw where Isabel would be in 3 days. Bwahahahaha. Just fired an email to Shep-Foxnews with that comment.

Winds here are a gentle 4 mph, with 7 mph gust, a rather balmy on-shore pacific breeze, visibility is about 25 miles, it's 72 degrees and quite sunny, but a little on the chilly side.
