The Gresham Police are cutting off the United Way. They'll no longer allow the charity organization to collect donations from officers, because the United Way stopped its support for the Boy Scouts.
"Until they modify their anti-discrimination policy, we don't want to be solicited by them," said spokesman Paul Poitras.
There's no word yet on whether or not the city will challenge the move by police.

"I can see the lawsuits piling up from here."
Even today I don't think you can sue a person or group and force them to donate to your charity! Any cop on this force who still wishes to donate to the United Way is free to do so on his own, I imagine.
Any contact info available so we can send them a laurel & hearty GOOD JOB!

Excellent way to use your one bullet, Barney!!
I stopped giving to the United Way years ago, after the scandal.
Now I support the Christian Childrens Fund.

I hope more organizations have the guts to do this. I'd like to send congratulations. Anyone know an e-mail address for the Gresham PD?

Well, as far as I know, this decision was by the Gresham Police Officers' Association, not the City of Gresham. There are contact emails in the link in #10.

I have faith in the ACLU.
I'm sure they'll figure out a way to sue that police dept for something now that they have chosen to support the Boy Scouts over the united way.

I love these Oregon police officers.

Sent an email thanking the police for the support of the Boy Scouts. Told them I am a former Den Mother and Merit Badge Counselor. Wife of Eagle Scout and Mother of two Eagle Scouts. So glad someone stood up to United Way. I quit giving to them two years ago when they took the Boy Scouts off the list here in Spokane, WA.

super cool, but remember, if this catches on some poor assistant to the CEO will have to take pay cut from a six-figure salary to a lesser six-figure salary.
