Mongolia, US hold joint military exercises

ULAN BATOR, September 14 (Xinhuanet) -- About 50 US marines arrived in Mongolia and held joint field exercises with Mongolian troops, reported the UB Post paper on Sunday.
The joint exercises, named The Khaan Quest 2003, were held at the Tavantolgoi training center, about 40 kilometers west of Ulan Bator. The exercises were mainly intended for US army training Mongolian troops in peacekeeping operations, reported the UB Post.
About 200 Mongolian military servicemen left for Iraq at the end of last month, and the second group of the same number of Mongolian troops will relieve them six months later, the paper added. Enditem

I just finished a book about the Khans...pretty amazing the empire they built.
If they had been unified, they would have taken over all of Europe and the ME as well.

Last time I was in Ulan Bator many of the Mongols I met expresssed concerns about being over run with Chinese either by raid or trade. Kinda hard to believe given Inner Mongolia is so sparsely populated....however, the Chinese are slowly trickling into Siberia.

Just passing through on my way to China from Russia. I did spend a couple weeks knocking around the countryside in a Russian military jeep. Fabulous country, Fabulous people. Its like America was before the white man. Go if you get a chance.
I did notice they based their Constitution on the UN template. Arrrrgggghhh...
