Not long ago, my credit card wouldn't be accepted at a store because Visa had blocked it. When I called to find out what happened, it turned out a charity I give to by being automatically charged every month had a computer malfunction and charged me about 100 times in one day before Visa put a stop to it. And that was a total accident. Just how many times do you think Howard Dean could be voted for by accidental computer glitch?

You mean until a “visa put a stop to it”? “Accidents” are to the voting system’s disadvantage.

My guess is computerized voting systems will be outlawed by Congress before 2010. In either 2004, 2006 or 2008 there's going to be a massive breakdown or scandal that's going to render an important election completely uncountable, and that's going to be the death knell for touch screens. (And rightfully so.)

We need to go back to the old standards: paper ballots, continuous monitoring of all precincts by both parties, etc.
