Why Are We Feeding North Korea? (Action Alert)
Posted on 09/16/2003 5:47:22 AM PDT by jonalvy44
Patriots:
I find this truly mind-boggling as well as disturbing. For all their saber-rattling, we are still contemplating sending FOOD AID to N. Korea. This is the same country that has repeatedly threatened the USA, refuses to honor past agreements, and is a member of the Axis of Evil. Please, write your elected officials via:
http://www.congress.org
Let them know how you feel about feeding our enemies. This is not acceptable.

US Reconsiders Food Aid Shipment to N. Korea
VOA News
16 Sep 2003, 05:55 UTC
The United States says it is considering whether to go ahead with a 60,000 ton food aid shipment to North Korea, amid concerns the aid might not reach those who need it most.

Why do we send aid to anyone when we have kids at home who are dying daily? Federal taxes could be cut by 2/3rds if foriegn aid was stopped.

Why are you asking questions about it? The Bush administration approved this long before the action in Iraq. They already sent 40000 tons earlier, the 60000 tons was the second shipment.
Fox News report Feb 25,2003
There were some asking about this before Iraq, where were you? And North Korea was the one that actually had and still has WMDs.

As much as this is called blackmail, and I hate to say it, but we are feeding North Korea because they can't feed themselves and we have no desire to have to go back into South Korea to bail them out again because the Northerners will have to go there looking for food. This is a true rogue state. They accomplish everything they get through blackmail and threats, and have enough manpower run by a
don't-give-a-sh@@ power hungrey moron, to send his troops into the South not really caring if they come back, but how much they can bring or send back. At the moment, feeding them is the lesser of evils.

"At the moment, feeding them is the lesser of evils." Please understand that every morsel we send goes directly to their troops. The "common people" see none of it.
So we are subsidizing their military machine with food shipments. Lesser of two evils?...

Because giving away the people's money is ok. </sarcasm>
It's also cheaper and safer than deploying troops and ousting Kim. Bush wouldn't be able to justify another 89 Billion for another war and reconstruction effort.

Sorry don't mean to appear to be taking it on you. It's just that this issue was raised back round the beginning of the year and all we heard from the arm chair warriors around here was 'forget them, get the WMDs in Iraq'. The Armed Forces attack the nation that didn't have WMDs on the scale told to us by Bush and all the while he approves giving massive amounts of food to the country that does have them and freely admits it.

Oh horsefeathers. You do your cause no good with such lying hyperbole. There is a strong case to be made to stop food aid to NK, but this is *not* it.

I'm sorry, but you most likely are right there. It's just like Iraq and Saddam's palaces while his people starve to death (or are tortured). But, and that's a big but, the people being fed are the ones that need to stay happy so they won't be visiting the South and causing us to have to go back in just like the 1950's. Blackmail, yes. Saves our lives, also yes.

It is the very fact that North Korea does have WMD's and possibly nukes that can actually threaten us that we are giving North Korea food aid and sitting down to talk with them. This fact alone makes a mockery out of Bush's "pre-emprive" foreign policy or as some call it- The Bushnev doctrine.

you know what's interesting? the reaction I've gotten to this. Seems many want to feed this country, despite their leader...are we naive or humane?
I wonder if we see Pearl Harbor 2 if they will reconsider feeding this million man army?

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20030916-113346-3232r.htm U.S. probe focuses on Syria weapons
By Bill Gertz
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
The U.S. government is investigating intelligence reports that Iraq sent weapons to Syria to hide them from U.N. inspectors and coalition troops in Iraq, a senior State Department official said yesterday.
John Bolton, the undersecretary of state for arms control, also told a House International Relations subcommittee that Syria is developing medium-range missiles with help from North Korea and Iran that could be fired in nerve gas attacks hundreds of miles from Syria's borders.
He testified in open and closed sessions that Syria continues to take hostile actions against U.S. and coalition troops in Iraq by permitting sympathizers of Saddam Hussein to enter Iraq to kill Americans.
"Syria permitted volunteers to pass into Iraq to attack and kill our service members during the war, and is still doing so," Mr. Bolton said.
"September 11, we were reminded of the need to remain steadfast in recognizing emerging threats to our security," Mr. Bolton said. "In Syria, we see expanding [weapons of mass destruction] capabilities and continued state sponsorship of terrorism."
Mr. Bolton said that "we cannot allow the world's most dangerous weapons to fall into the hands of the world's most dangerous regimes, and will work tirelessly to ensure this is not the case for Syria."
Syria has purchased nuclear goods that indicate it may use a Chinese-made reactor to build nuclear arms, he said.
Also, the Syrians are working on offensive biological weapons, he said.
Mr. Bolton stated that Syria has several hundred Scud and SS-21 short-range missiles and has built a longer-range Scud D with help from North Korea. The Scud D has a range of some 310 miles and Syria test-fired one in 2000.
Some of the missiles can be outfitted with deadly nerve gas warheads, Mr. Bolton said.
During a closed-door session, Mr. Bolton showed the committee a map highlighting the ranges of Syrian missiles and future missiles, including a version of the North Korean Nodong that has a range of 620 miles, enough to hit targets throughout the Middle East.
Syria has one of the most advanced chemical weapons programs in the Arab world that includes the nerve agent sarin and the more deadly nerve gas known as VX, Mr. Bolton said.
