This could be a pivotal election issue. Foreigners occuping high tech jobs when American citizens are out of work IS a big issue. Related, Presidsent Bush seems to support the presence of illegal aliens in the US, seems to be reluctant to control the northern and southern US borders, and also seems to want to put Mexicans here illegally at the head of the line for citizenship. In the face of the economy and the war on terrorism, these positions are politically unacceptable.

Both major parties are in favor of illegal immigration, despite the overwhelming majority of Americans who want our borders protected.

H-1B Visa Temporary Workers in Specialty Occupations
Per the U.S. Dept. of Labor and the INS web sites, the term "specialty occupations" (generally those requiring a bachelor's degree or its equivalent)

"Currently, there are some ESTIMATED! 900,000 H1-B employees in the U.S." = Big Government Lie (BGL) =BGL#1

"Beginning October 1, the H1-B visas quota will revert back to the 65,000 per annum level it was before it was raised a few years ago to 195,000." = BGL#2

Beyond the Cap

Fiscal Fiscal
2000 2001
Visa cap 195,000 195,000

Visas issued 163,000 79,100
Visas issued in exempt category* 342,000 215,000
Total H1b Visas issued 505,000 294,000
Total H1b Visas issued in 2001/2 799,000!

* Exempt category includes organizations such as schools and nonprofit research groups and Federal government jobs.

As you can see there is NO cap on the amount of H1b hi tech job stealing visas. The reality is that the exemptions account for more than a 200 percent increase OVER the supposed maximum allowed by law. 800,000 hi-tech jobs taken from Americans and given to foreigners in 2 years! Thats 1,400 Americans being fired every week - BY LAW and their Hi-tech job being given away for SIX YEARS. Yes OUR government, Republicans and Democrats, have passed a law that encourages companies to do this.
Since these visas last for 6 YEARS! AND these numbers only represent TWO years then the number of H1B visa workers in the U.S. is probably closer to TWO MILLION! (Thats TEN times the size of the entire Marine Corp!)

Oh, wait theres mo.
The L1 Visa Count. L1 Visas are used by Mulinational companies. You will notice that there are even MORE L1 Visas than H1B visas.

Year
H-1B Visa L1 Visa

1998 203,255 240,947

1999 234,443 302,326

The L-1 visa does not require the worker to pay taxes
H-1b: DOL/INS fails to update the IRS that a worker is here. We've interviewed dozens where payroll taxes were NOT withheld. Ask your favorite foreign tech worker if he has a pay stub!
So lets restate the weekly loss of Hi-tech jobs to at least 2000 per week, every week.

I certainly don't think that the democrats are going to look at this issue.

I'm very disappointed in President Bush regarding this issue. He's been great in so many areas, that this is letting me down.
