[history]
Mayor Alan Autry will try to suspend the city's Human Relations Commission after its chairwoman issued a news release labeling a local conservative organization a "hate group." Autry vowed Saturday to take action against the commission in the latest clash between the group and more conservative members of the Fresno city government.

This is my first post. I hope it's OK and not already posted. I think Mark Twain said that any press was good, as long as they spell your name correctly. Found the link on Newsmax. My apologies if posting entire article is wrong. Some like it and some don't.

I hate beurocrats.
Does that count?

Reyes said she wrote the news release, with help from another commissioner, because, "there's a link on the website that refers to this group as anti-gay and anti-immigration. When intolerance comes to the table, we need to answer that call." The only instolerance in this case comes from the Left.
Free Republic is not anti-gay, just against the far-Left's gay agenda.
Free Republic is not anti-immigration, just anti-ILLEGAL immigration vis-a-vis border jumping.

Alan Autry was "Bubba" on "In the Heat of the Night" with Carroll O'Connor. He's Christian.

Free Republic is not anti-gay, just against the far-Left's gay agenda.Oh, don't kid yourself. There are quite a number of anti-gay people in these parts. If you read some of their posts, it isn't hard to see why some people take that as hate. Not hard at all.
Flame away.

DeGraff, a member of Peace Fresno, said he read messages on the Web site that stated Free Republic members were armed and "extremely violent." ... After listening to DeGraff, the HRC decided to write a letter to police, Catalano said. And Reyes later decided to send the news release, warning of the "hate group." Any notion of a slander or libel suit here? Though it sounds like the City of Fresno is appropriately trying to reprimand the kooks, you do seem to have a case here.

So can I put membership on my resume?

Idiot.
FR is not a "Hate Group".
It's a "...fierce war-like band...".
Can't these guys get anything right?

Isn't he also Gene Autry's son? I guess there are still some good folks in the entertainment biz.

Oh, don't kid yourself. There are quite a number of anti-gay people in these parts. If you read some of their posts, it isn't hard to see why some people take that as hate. Not hard at all. Any statement of the illegal or violent sort is removed by the mods and the statement maker is banned. This being an open forum, that is all Free Republic can do about it.

LOL!!!!!
What a laugh, the "human relations commission"? Their motto, "we care about what's going on between your sheets".

DeGraff, a member of Peace Fresno, said he read messages on the Web site that stated Free Republic members were armed and "extremely violent." and went on to say that Islam is the religion of peace.....
To: bk1000
Dude, I always wanted to be a member of a 'hate group'!

"This group has also planned a 'Free Republic Hate Rally Picnic' " Saturday at Woodward Park Notice the title of the picnic. LOL. "Hate Rally Picnic". That is too funny. I imagine the sun shining, blue sky, children skipping through the grass and a bunch of people sitting on red and white checkered blankets eating ribs and chicken mumbling "I hate everyone."

Any notion of a slander or libel suit here? Though it sounds like the City of Fresno is appropriately trying to reprimand the kooks, you do seem to have a case here. As much as I hate to say it, it sounds like it's time for every Freeper who attended that event to lawyer-up and pile on the lawsuits against the individuals who had anything to do with that announcement. This is defamation of character.
