Accident Was Alleged Insurance Fraud Attempt

LAWRENCE, Mass. -- A car crash allegedly staged for insurance money took a deadly turn, and investigators said the suspect and the victim were working together.
NewsCenter 5's Jorge Quiroga reported that the alleged scheme, a collision designed to look real to collect insurance money, is now a real-life manslaughter case in Lawrence after one of the participants dies.
Lawrence Police Chief John Omero said staged accidents are a thriving business in Lawrence. The city has the highest level of automobile insurance fraud in the state, four times the state's average. Omero calls the accident that took the life of a grandmother a shameless crime.
Police said Hairo Gomez was driving the target car, or car to be hit. Altagracia Arias, 65, was in the back seat of the bullet car, or car intended to hit the target car, police said.
"What was supposed to happen was that the two vehicles were to strike, and the people were to claim injuries. What happened, the individual driving the bullet car continued accelerating and went on to hit a lamppost, resulting in the woman in the car dying," said Omero.
Police said Arias helped stage the accident to scam insurance money for needy relatives in the Dominican Republic.
Police said there were five other passengers between the two vehicles, and the district attorney said he expects additional charges in the case.
"We are looking at everybody in both cars, both the bullet car and the car that was struck," said Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett.
According to police, hours before she was killed, Arias was seen recruiting passengers at a local senior center, offering $200 a seat.
"The staged accidents in Lawrence is an industry. We have a case here where we have a good case, in the sense that it may open the door for us to expand our investigations. So it is a good arrest, and we're very happy that we were able to make this arrest and move on. Hopefully, this case will expand and we will be able to do more with it," said Omero.
Omero said an estimated $80 million worth of fraudulent Lawrence personal injury claims were paid by insurance companies in 2002. Gomez was held on $100,000 cash bail.
The term in some places is a "Sworn Law Enforcemnt Officer." One swears to uphold the laws of the locale, the state, and the country. Apparently the oath of office means nothing when confronted with some border-bounding bastard who somehow fit into the politically correct scheme of things due to skin color, or other factors.
In fact this scumbag himself is an Affirmative Action Clymer. Move on over, PC Moose.
I think they know something US citizens don't.
Yet.
Sounds like something the Simpsons police chief says.
