After the news of Johnny Cash & John Ritter, I also find that Larry Hovis who played Carter on "Hogan's Heroes" died. The old adage they go in threes was certainly evident today. Very unreal. Did not know that Larry Hovis was also one of the creators of "Laugh In". I remember him on the show and I guess he was doing both shows. If this has already been posted, sorry, I did not find it.

One of the depressing thing about the media age is that all of these actors/actresses/politicians/athletes whom we get very familiar with will start dying off in large numbers over the next 10 years (guys from the 60s and 70s). The guys from the 40s and 50s are almost all dead (save Mel Brooks, Sid Ceaser, and Carl Reiner). I don't mean to get into equating it with the death of a loved one, but it's sad to see people you grew up watching no longer with us.
Hovis' Hitler was hysterical, btw.

Always liked him. And in those days T.V. actors got nothing financially like the T.V. stars of today.

I just signed on to check this myself. Larry's death was mentioned in the latest "This is True" mailing (see
http://www.thisistrue.com)
The info said that Larry Hovis always wore gloves on HH to hide his wedding ring since Sgt. Carter was supposed to be single. Since 1990, he taught acting at Texas State University in San Marcos. Hovis was diagnosed with cancer 3 months ago and died in hospice on Sept. 9th.

RIP, Larry. I only really know him from Hogan's Heroes, but his character "Carter" was great.
When I was in elementary school in the early 70's I used to see Leon Askin (who played General Burkhalter) walk his little dog nearly every day as I walked to the playground after lunch. My friends and I would immediately start singing the Hogan's Heroes theme song upon seeing him, and he'd smile and laugh at us.

This really makes me sad. I remember scheduling all my college classes around Hogan's Heroes hour 1PM-2PM every weekday afternoon.
