AZ: Cantoni takes on Scutari; Immoderate Republic reporter Chip Scutari

Arizona Republic reporter Chip Scutari used immoderate language and lousy spelling on the front-page of the September 12 Arizona Republic to paint the fiscally conservative Club for Growth as an extremist group.

Scutari said that the organization was "created to target GOP legislators who don't worship at the alter (sic) of tax cuts, economic growth and school choice."

A revealing choice of words. In my experience, no Republic reporter has ever described a liberal organization as targeting Democrats who don't worship at the altar of tax increases, economic stagnation and public school collectivism and coercion. From the unbalanced political perspective of Republic staffers, only conservatives worship at altars -- or is it "alters?"

Scutari goes on to say that the Club for Growth will be targeting "moderate" Republican politicians, implying that the organization is not moderate. Actually, according to its web site, the organization is targeting Republicans in Name Only (RINOs); that is, Republicans who believe in higher taxes and bigger government. Only in the mind of an illiberal journalist is the word "moderation" defined as higher taxes and bigger government. Based on Scutari's definition, Fidel Castro is a moderate.

Alarmingly, the nation has plenty of Scutari's brand of moderation. All levels of government now cost the average American family $19,000 per year, excluding the hidden cost of regulations. In my case, the government takes half of my income.

That's about as moderate as Scutari's reporting.
