I once had a tumor growing inside me. It was going to kill me. To excise that tumor all at once would have killed me also. The doctors reccommended multiple small surguries to remove it. I said "Hell no, all or nothing doc!" The feller down at the funeral home has been real nice with all the pre-arrangement details.

Actually, this situation is more akin to finding that you have cancer, and then telling the doc, "No doc, don't treat it, I have a movie actor who has promised to take care of it for me...oh I know he's not a real doc, but he once played one!"

It's a very simple logical trick.

Economic conservatives believe in classicial economic liberalism. Equate classic economic liberalism with libertarianism, and then espouse a libertarian social ideology, and assert that it's socially conservative.

In a classical liberalism works in economics because in a liberal system, market forces direct behavior towards what is "good." The resources, including employees and market share, will shoft from businesses choosing poor behavior towards those which are choosing good behavior.

Human life doesn't contract and expand, however, and spiritally poverty does not beget trimmed budgeting, but rather simply graver spiritual poverty. Thus, original sin prevents classical liberalism from functioning within a human being. This is why classical economic liberals did not uniformly become social libertines. (John Stuart Mills did, of course, but he was insane!)
