Why do some recall voters get to vote twice? (Vanity)

12 Sep 2003 | SpyGuy
Posted on 09/12/2003 6:15 PM PDT by SpyGuy

Ok, follow this logic:

If a voter votes "No" on the California recall, they are in fact placing a de-facto vote for Davis. So why do they also get to vote for a follow-up candidate if their primary candidate (Davis) loses the election?

It seems to me that if people chose to vote against the recall, then they should not be allowed to also vote for a potential replacement in the event that the recall is successful. (Btw, I would argue the same point if this were a recall against an incumbent conservative.)

I'm being serious here. Does anyone know why this loophole exists? ....

Hugh Hewitt Lays Down the Gauntlet to Tombots

Hugh Hewitt's Website ^ | September 12, 2003 | Hugh Hewitt
Posted on 09/12/2003 6:40 PM PDT by DiamondDon1

The following resolution is proposed by Hugh Hewitt:

Proposed resolution from the floor at the California State Republican Convention: "Resolved, that if the vote totals on October 8 are Cruz 40%, Arnold 39.5% and Tom 6%, that it is Tom's fault that Cruz is the new governor." Now that would be a debate worth broadcasting on C-SPAN. Odds are that the Tombots would deny they are pulling a Thelma and [Louise] sic, even under those circumstances....

Los Angeles -- Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger refused Friday to debate his top Republican rival, state Sen. Tom McClintock, saying it would not fit into his strategy for winning the recall replacement election Oct. 7.

"I'm not going to go around and respond to individual challenges," Schwarzenegger said outside a Los Angeles manufacturing plant. "I have a plan to become the next governor of the state of California, and the best way to do that is to stay on course." ....

Tom debates for a living.

Arnold speaks from scripts and avoids debates.

Who is more qualified and capable?

LATEST NEWS
3:21 PM PDT Thursday

Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger beats Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in the Oct. 7 election to replace Gov. Gray Davis, according to results of a Stanford University online survey of California voters. The Stanford poll, taken Aug. 29 to Sept. 8, is the first public poll to put the movie actor ahead of the career politician.

Unlike conventional telephone polls, which have reported Mr. Bustamante leading the recall race, Californians who participated in the online survey voted 40 percent for Schwarzenegger and 28 percent for the lieutenant governor. Among registered voters, 62 percent indicated "yes" for the recall and 38 percent said "no."

Poll results have a 4.3 percent margin of error....
