California State Assembly passes SB328 Free tuition for illegal aliens

SACRAMENTO (AP) _ A bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for financial aid at California community colleges was approved by the state Assembly Thursday.

The bill, by Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Norwalk, would direct the board of governors to establish a process so students without legal immigration status can apply to have tuition waived.

It would require that the student attended high school in California for at least three years, obtained a diploma or an equivalent degree and, if the student isn't in the state legally, has applied to become a legal resident.

Opponents said the bill followed in the footsteps of the recently approved bill to allow illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses.

``Now we want to give financial aid in community colleges to illegal aliens?'' said Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy, R-Monrovia. ``Members, what is the matter with you?''

But supporters said the bill would help those students become educated members of the state's work force, helping the economy.

``We can continue to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it, but this helps kids who are in this state, who have graduated from high school, who we hope will go on to college, or learn a trade,'' said Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael. ``It's the right thing to do politically, it's the right thing to do socially, and it's the right thing to do economically as well.''

The bill was approved on a 43-27 vote, returning to the Senate for approval of Assembly amendments.

Is it my imagination, exmarine, or is this another way to express the commie strategy of the ends justifying the means??

Comming soon to a state near you if we do not expell illegal immigrants, control our borders, and reduce legal immigration.

>>How do we fight back? are we helpless? Something's got to give...whether it be statewide, or ajoining states efforts to reclaim "Aztlan" as ours. Enough is enough.<<

One way is to stop filing a federal income tax return. Yea, this is a state thing, but they go to the same country club. Not filing a return, if you are an american citizen who earned his income in the united states, seems to be the way people are SUCCESSFULLY avoiding the legal problems this would normally bring about.

Think it's hopeless? Go here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/961901/posts

I have multiple friends that earn very good money and haven't filed a return in over a decade! I used to think it was only a matter of time...
I now believe they are right.

They do become educated members of the state's work force but they don't help the economy. They seek employment in the public sector. Statistically, the higher their educational level, the more likley to are to be employed in the public sector.

As an example they become univerity professors in a chicano studies department or work for state legislators or become state legislators.

Statistically, the more highly educated they are, the bigger their drain on the tax supported infrastructure.

SInce when is VOTING for a Republican who can win a "commie strategy"?

Actually what is a "commie strategy" is : "divide and conquer" and playing the Republicans for "useful idiots".
The McClintock voters are the ones who are falling for the commie strategy.

Or haven't you noticed liberals, as Alan Colmes and Dem strategists keep telling conservatives that McClintock is the one who really represents their values and should vote for him. I am amazed that they can keep a straight face, surely they must be rolling on the floor laughing, after they are off camera, how easy it is to bambozzle the conservatives into helping the Dems win an election.

WINNING is the ONLY objective in an election. The Oct. 7 election is NOT an opinion poll, it's an election to elect the next CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR.

Yes, it is absolutely buying votes with taxpayer money. So too is it buying votes with taxpayer money to even have a tax supported school system, at all levels. Since first generation American born citizens of immigrants from Mexico, legal and otherwise, are several times more likely than white people to own their own businesses (and, thus, to employ all job seeking folk, including white folk), I have much less fear of immigrants, legal or illegal than I do of the American born white folk who think they have a right to public education at my expense. Most people who complain about immigrants getting services don't think about the services which they receive (be it education for themselves or their kids; social security, Medicare, Unemployment, Food Stamps, etc., etc.----all are illegitimate systems, paid for by taxpayers, not all of whom, yet, take from such systems). But I'm just another disgruntled white guy who thinks the words on the Statue of Liberty were and are beautiful, even if they were paid for by Frogs...

I think it is time for McClintock to get out of the way, because if he prevents Arnold from teaching these folks a lesson, then all McClintock will be remembered for is perpetrating a crime against the people of the state of California.

Perhaps that's the reason McClintock manages to maintain some power in the state, he's a useful pawn for the democratoc powers that be, but meanwhile, he's ineffectual.

OK.

But to claim that a debate is counter productive is no less an insult to the common guy than the democrat cat fight & demonizing we saw last week.

Figure it out, people who have been the foundation of conservatism, republicans if you don't mind, are concerned about Schwarzenegger's real beliefs; word is that he is a liberal or RINO. Everyone knows that is not the case with McClintock.

You argue that a debate would divide the party - which is quite nicely divided now according to FR and hard-over posters such as you.

I think that every republican debater I've seen, even rep's being flayed by both dem's, the League of Women Voters, AND the alphabet networks, can actually talk, make sense, and remain civil.

Talking means stating your position; see below.

Refusing to even talk with same-party contenders gives some if us pause. I am NOT ready to assume someone is truely my kind of Republican based on your word. And, in that circumstance I'd be far more willing to suggest that Arnie drop out to leave the field to McClintock.

I'm leaving no matter who gets elected..... it's gonna be hard to get those disgusting left-wingers (the middle class-hating Jackie 'Shamu' Golberg types) and vile Mexicans out of the legislature without some very lively action by citizens. Most of those left here are not citizens.... they're mostly Mexican criminals.

We had lively action when the people overwhelmingly voted for Proposition 187. However, I'm not confident that you were referring to that type of endeavor.

The invasion of nearing complete in some regions.

Looking back at this federally approved invasion, it's now inordinately clear that the governments past actions or lack of actions, are going in one direction at a stunning fast pace.

Maybe next week will see a new CA legislative proposal that will bestow illegal immigrants with lifetime room and board courtesy of hard working, law-abiding CA taxpayers who do not qualify for a dime or any break at all whatsoever from the government.

Come on you mean spirited person, you. Illegals need housing and groceries, too. ;)

No thank you. One experience with a Bill Simon-type defeat is quite enough for me. It's either McClintock drops out, or I will pray that the recall vote fails and leaves Gray Davis. Your guy is a proven loser, despite liberal-media-pumped "polls". If he stays in, Bustamante will be the next Governor.

I see you evaded my point about how this is NOT a primary. Do you people realize that less than 4 weeks now remain until the GENERAL election, and there are TWO GOP candidates? T.R. took on Taft and we got Woodrow Wilson, the philisophical predecessor to Neville Chamberlain and Jimmy Carter.

Now McClintock takes on Arnold and we will get Bustamante, the precursor to Aztlan--racial choas and destruction in America.

I sugest you move the boundry line of Aztlan a little further to the west towards El Paso, Texas. The boundry line as drawn would give Midland, former home of George and Laura Bush, to Aztlan.

Agreed. If there was time to organize it, people from every other state ought to descend on California with foreign issued identification, demand driver&s licenses and voter registration. After all, if citizens of another country can vote in California elections, so should citizens of another state.

When California finally goes belly-up financially, the Federal Government should take the state into receivership, dissolve the legislature and appoint trusties to manage the financial affairs of the state-- because the elected officials have clearly failed their duties.
