Two U.S. soldiers were killed and seven wounded when a pre-dawn raid on Friday turned into a heavy gunbattle in a restive zone of Iraq where support for deposed dictator Saddam Hussein is strongest.
Witnesses at the blood-smeared, bullet-scarred scene of the raid in Ramadi, 60 miles west of Baghdad, said three Iraqis had also died, but this could not be confirmed.

Prayers for those killed, wounded and their families. Sounds like our guys were taking it right to the enemies doorstep.
One of our very biggest blessings is our brave, strong military.

I believe the battle for the Faluja/Sunni triangle has been joined. The troops waited a long time for this real combat but we have been trying to be nice in the wake of the pushover of the rest of the country. If the turkies did not block our northern advance then this may not even have been necessary as the fleeing Baath leadership and high ranking Repub Guard would have had nowhere to run. I hope they occupy the triangle with a strong arm they way we occupied Germany until the rats are cornered and exterminated.

"Look at the blood all over the house. ..." housewife Samam Kadhim said. "This is the American behavior -- aggression toward Muslim houses." Oh no, nasty Americans bleeding all over poor Muslim houses. Where is PETH (People for the Ethical Treatment of Houses).

Maybe it's time to surround the triangle area....call upon the inhabitants to turn over the terrorists, or we start field testing a few MOABs...

Ping to a slightly more 'useful' article on the raid.
It's a sad day when I'm saying something good about the Washington comPost.
To: Pan_Yans Wife
All the Washington Post article quotes were from the hate America Iraqis. No bias there?
We weep for spilled American blood and hope all the rest spilled is from the bad guys who threaten our civilization.

No one in the press wants to remind the American public that Turkey really did make this more difficult than it could have been.
But, as you suggest, we will still prevail.

May the souls of our fallen find mercy at the hands of God.
I'm tired of seeing our men killed in these little raids. It would be nice to just find a way to kill off all the enemies swiftly and end this middle east conflict once and for all.

The USA could use a new protectorate. And, hey, it just happens to be full of oil. It would be a noce reward if we were to keep iraq. just call it payment for all the butt saving/kicking we did in WWII.

It would be nice to just find a way to kill off all the enemies swiftly and end this middle east conflict once and for all. In moments of frustration I wonder aloud why we don't just nuke the tribal hideout that bin Laden is cowering in. But, then I think of the people that live in that 40 mile area, and am reminded that they shouldn't be slaughtered just because the devil is hiding in their midst.

How many people are we talking about though? 500?
I am more inclined to say no to nukes but more because it would taint the oil too much and would greatly lower our reputation in the world.
but i also think that the time for spec ops is over. It is time to give this green army of ours some foot exercise. Go in. Hit hard. and (in following the #1 rule learned through video games) if it moves......shoot it.
I say this with a light tone but i men it seriously. I would have signed up long ago but for a family (father) edict against it.
I saw a bumper stick that was a little calouse but to the point.
"kill them all, let allah sort 'em out"
I don't like the harshness of that phrase but for that part of the world only a big stick and strong arm will bring any semblance of peace.
oops it is class time.
got to go.
see ya'll later

I am more inclined to say no to nukes but more because it would taint the oil too much I doubt if many of their wells are located in their villages or cities.
Even if they have a well in a target area an airburst leaves a very minor crater.
The oil can be pumped though the small coating of glass.
and would greatly lower our reputation in the world.
The only "reputation in the world" that should concern us is
the proven reputation for completely destroying any enemy stupid enough to attack us.

Because he's been dead since before Dec 13th, 2001. I have seen that before on FR, but I don't know where this conclusion comes from. Care to fill me in?
