Here's a little history. Nixon won once and then won the presidency a second time and that by a landslide. Then the Democrats went into action by demonizing Nixon at every turn. The tactic, honed by experience in the destruction of Senator McCarthy, was used again and again, on Gingrich, Bork, Lott, Starre, and with not much success against Reagan. Now Bush is in their sights.

It's sad that Republicans cave so easily and turn on their own. Nixon, bless his heart, should go down as one of the greats.

To base your whole post on the premise that Nixon was crook is sad and indicates gross ignorance on your part.

Re your history lesson about Nixon. I lived thru that history. In fact, I was the Colorado Youth for Nixon chairman in 1968. I watched the Watergate hearings and read the transcripts. Nixon was seriously character challenged and the Republicans were right to vote for impeachment. He obstructed justice.

Yes, the dems tried to demonize him. For once, they were right. But a broken clock . . .

To his credit, he resigned. And that alone proves that in the end, he had more grace in his little finger than Clinton had in his whole body. But to call Nixon one of the Greats is wrong.

How so? In your heart you know you were sucked in and took the easy way out.

Have a good weekend

Did you read the transcripts? In my heart, I know I'm right.

As I first became aware of this situation, I believed Bill Clinton was guilty of negligence and oversight. As I read the evidence, however, the picture darkened significantly. Clinton's attitude probably started as neglect of global terrorism -- a field alien to the Arkansas governor's experience and worldview. But as his administration evolved and entered its second term, its failure to deal with these three looming threats began to seem more and more conscious, even deliberate.

Long, but timely, repost.

What universe do you live in?

Nixon WAS a crook; it was about power AND money for him.

How so? In your heart you know you were sucked in and took the easy way out.

I find it hard that somebody who knows ANYTHING at all about Watergate could make a statement like that. It's one of the most disengenuous things I've ever read on FR.

Morris's book was a surprisingly good read, especially with regard to terrorism and how Clinton did nothing.

Actually Clinton did do something with regard to terrorism. He pardoned the FALN terrorists.

and, finally, a morally relativist refusal to see Saddam, al Qaeda, or Kim Jong Il as forces of evil.

This is the fundamental tragedy of the leftist mind - an inability to recognize sin and evil when it stares them in the face.

I'm here to make it known that I think that the mutual bashing is ruining the country. Conservatives and Liberals are so intent on undermining each other that they are united in only one thing ... undermining the whole nation in an effort to "get" one another.

The left is destroying this country, culturally and politically. They must be opposed and stopped.

I could suggest you read "The Clinton Wars" by Sydney Blumenthal to get a clear pitcure on how great the Clinton Presidency was, but I have a feeling you won't do it.

I'd rather buy a used car from Joe Isuzu, thank you.

I may have to read the book, now.
Morris was a Clinton White House insider, and it is absolutely
chilling to read that he truly believes that Clinton
purposefully chose to leave the terrorist "time-bomb"
to explode on whomever succeeded him.

What I find interesting is there is no mention of Hillry in all these words.

BJClinton told us himself that we got TWO for the price of one. So while Bill whored around Hillry ran the show.

Hillry should be required to publicly testify what she knew and when she knew it and why she did nothing to stop the terrorists.

But didn't the UN say that all the coalition was authorized to do was get Saddam out of Kuwait? They were not "authorized" to bring about the end of Saddam. The media also helped stop the drive into Iraq with the publication of the Highway of Death photos.

Sid the clintinoid lackey of the Clintons cannot write anything critical of the First Felons. Talk about biased--Sid is the worst example. And you Mr. misnamed Soothsayer are obviously a troll from DU with nary a modicum of truth in your leftist opinions.

Nixon WAS a crook; it was about power AND money for him.

How old are you? What did Nixon do that other presidents didn't do? Did he die rich? Did he ever use power like Johnson or Clinton?

I find it hard that somebody who knows ANYTHING at all about Watergate...

Watergate was blown out of all proportions, just like how to spell 'potato' was. Look what was done to Gingrich and Starr. They were all reduces to 'despicables'.

Sad you don't see the Democrat stategy and are so nieve.

I'll say it again, Nixon was one of the best presidents ever. If you want I'll give you the reasons, they are numerous.

Howlin, you must be one gullible guy. How long will it take for you to turn on Bush?

A few of Nixon's greatest hits, since you seem to have selective amnesia:

Burglary
Breaking and entering
Bribery
Extortion
Phone-tapping
Conspiracy
Cover-ups
Obstruction of justice
Destruction of evidence
Tax fraud
Illegal use of government agencies (FBI, CIA, and the IRS)
Illegal campaign contributions
Defying Congress and a sitting District judge
Defying
"Dirty tricks"
"Slush funds"

and, oh, yeah:

one presidential resignation

one vice-presidential resignation

40 government officials indicted or jailed

H.R. Haldeman & John Erlichman (White House staff) resigned 30 April 1973, subsequently jailed

John Dean (White House legal counsel) sacked 30 April 1973, subsequently jailed

John Mitchell, Attorney-General and Chairman of the Committee to Re-elect the President (CREEP) jailed

Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy (ex-White House staff), planned the Watergate break-in, both jailed

Charles Colson, special counsel to the President jailed

James McCord (Security Director of CREEP) jailed

Now, that might look blown out of proportion to you, but most rational people who lived through that time got it and understood that, for the sake of this country, Richard M. Nixon HAD to go, one way or the other.

The only gullible person here is you; there is no comparison betwee what Richard Nixon did and what Newt Gingrich and Ken Starr did. In case you still don't get it, Nixon WAS guilty of riding atop the most crime-ridden administration in this country's lifetime.

And, yes, Richard Nixon DID die rich.
