Good Plan...we live 120 miles inland but found out the hard way that we can still get hit too.
I have a friend that was a nurse during Hugo. She worked in ICU at the hospital that is right on the coast. The stories that she has told me are unbelievable.
Those nurses had to manually bag their ventilator patients all night long because the back up generators failed, I think it was d/t the water supply being interrupted. The head nurse came around and loaded up their pockets with syringes of narcotics to keep the patients out of it and they each had a flashlight which they only turned on when necessary to conserve batteries. The nurses were all in separate rooms with their patients and were scared and lonely not knowing what was going on outside so they started singing to keep themselves from feeling so lonely.
She has a bunch of other stories too but what these people endured was amazing.

It's gonna be a long weekend.
it's not going to be anywhere near us by the weekend. Looks more like next Thu-Fri Yep but I'm an Operations Officer. My hurricane work has already started. Won't really heat up until Saturday but I've got a lot of work to do.
If you'd like to help, pray!

We had a bunch of Low Country folks evacuate to Florence during Hugo only to have a tornado rip the roof off of their hotel....
and drop it on their cars in the parking lot.

I live inland about 15 miles from the ocean in Jacksonville .Hope this hurricane misses us.

That reminds me, toe tags for the hurricane partiers. When people refuse to evacuate, they should be given those and asked to put them on to make the clean-up easier. That might change a few stubborn minds. ;-)

When people refuse to evacuate, they should be given those and asked to put them on You think I was kidding? That's exactly what they're for. It's a lot easier than arguing with them. Tends to work, too.
BTW, with a thought process like that: what are you doing say, around Tuesday of next week?

If the water rises more than about 6 feet, it will wash at the foundation of my sister-in-law's house on a saltwater creek in Savannah.
She evacuated two or three years ago when a hurricane came near -- the roads were so jammed, it took her about 24 hours to get to Atlanta.
Just thinking about Savannah makes me hungry for boiled peanuts.

not since 1938.
and it would only be the eastern part of the eye that the real damage would be done, the eastern part of the eye at best would cross eastern long island.

BTW, with a thought process like that: what are you doing say, around Tuesday of next week? Probably nothing, but I'm about 1000 miles North of you with the Twin Beams shining through my back window.

Dan Rather should be calling soon, asking if he can tie himself and a TV camera to one of your trees... Dan made his career in "Alicia" if I remember right...and yes, as much as one may hate him, he is no "panty waist" when it comes to "storms".
Only reason I'm backing him here is...I love a good storm myself! God's rule...no payoffs, bribes or campaign contributions determine the outcome. On your knees and pray..the "Almighty" is in the drivers seat!

She evacuated two or three years ago when a hurricane came near -- the roads were so jammed, it took her about 24 hours to get to Atlanta. I was running one shift of the military desk at the GEMA EOC in Atlanta for Floyd. It wasn't my duty station but I was out of town on business and they closed KSAV before my plane could get in. I walked into state HQ right as they were trying to find a warm body. My timing stunk that week.
It took my wife and kids about 8 hrs. Anyone leaving after that took 15-24 hrs. When it comes to evacuating, leave early, leave often!
Just thinking about Savannah makes me hungry for boiled peanuts.
If it misses us, the peanuts are on me.
