The Hero beanie is a truly fitting tribute. And, as for Barbara Olson, she was already a hero for exposing the klintoons for the white trash that they are - even before her untimely death.
IMHO, of course.

Can you imagine the ghosts of Arlington stirring in their graves and weeping because of what we lost that day? Of all the pictures I have seen, that is the most poignant.
Why? Because the men and women lying there fought to keep something like this from happening and WE failed them. WE failed to take up the baton and keep it from happening. This was never supposed to happen.

The most horrible site was the Pentagon. To me, seeing the vuneralbility of the pentagon was gut wrenching. To me, the Pentagon had always seemed invunerable, a symbol of our strength and then it was injured, a fallen warrior. I had similar feelings, but you described them so eloquently. The Pentagon and our military are the backbone of the country. To see that harmed is deeply frightening.

I was on the phone talking to a friend about the corruption in our city hall. We were talking about "a plane hitting the WTC" when the second one hit. I said, "My gosh! That's no accident; we're being attacked."
This morning the same friend and I were on the phone talking about the same corruption in city hall.
Some things never seem to change.

It makes you wonder how many other FReepers like Barbara Olsen who were slaughtered on 9-11?

They rang the old bell in downtown Charleston today, one time for each of the over 300 firefighters that died on this day two years ago.
They are interviewing Mr. Feller, he was laying in a hospital bed when it happened, the sound was down and he and is wife thought that it was a movie until they turned the sound up. He said "This wasn't supposed to happen".
Mr. Fellers voice is breaking as he tells the story. His house and yard are filled with patriotic emblems - flags and eagles.
Mr Feller is a Navy Veteran.

Wow is right Cal, it looks exactly like the photo that you took from Liberty State Park. I received this photo in an email from my Step-Dad this afternoon and wanted to post it here. How strange. It is an awesome photo.

"I had heard that they are going to light those beams again tonight - is that true?"I wasn't a 100% sure, so I did a search:
"Tonight, the twin towers of light will shine once more throughout the evening from the site of the towers."

He said "This wasn't supposed to happen".Truer words were never spoken. I can imagine that he would think it was a movie until he heard otherwise. My brain had a hard time registering what it was seeing when I got home from work that day even though I had heard about the horror all day.
Seeing it was surreal.

It is amazing to me how different people are using today to achieve things - there is a law firm here in town who are taking the day to canvas various areas to try and find and solve "cold" cases - murders primarily. A home being built by a community, people coming together to remember...
Listening to the children of the fallen read the names of people and then saying "my father", "my mother", "my sister", "my brother" etc., is heart wretching. I weep...
That, curse phrase, Howard Dean had his ad for presidential nomination placed during the news - he opposed war in Iraq and all that the President is doing and "wants to take the country" back. How dare he ...
I may be a lady, but you wouldn't know it if you could see the blue air in my apartment right now.
To top it off, we have a Category 5 hurricane headed this way. The 21st of September is not a day that carries happy memories because of Hurricane Hugo.

I heard from Lynne's sister Susan Sunday night. Lynn had suffered another set back, but was supposed to come home yesterday. I haven't heard anything more, so I am assuming she did not come home as planned. I am going to call Lynne's house and leave a message tomorrow. I hesitate to call the hospital because Lynne had the phone unplugged for several days so she wouldn't be disturbed.

Thank you for confirming that. I wish they would leave the lights burning always and not attempt to "replace" the WTC. There are too many souls there and it seems a travesty to just put another building up.
Plus, I saw the artist's rendition of the proposed center. It is U-G-L-Y with a capital "UG!"

I don't normally listen to CBS, but for some reason tonight it is there and the first thing is a little girl say "I love you, Daddy and I always will".
Dan Rather has brought up the very question that I know must be lurking in everones subconsious - "Can it happen again, but worst this time?"
Rather also brought up the question about our "back door" and the ability of INS to protect the borders. Legitimate questions and ones that, although we know the answer to, nothing is really being done.
