The Whig Party died because it was being run by a bunch of spineless pansies who refused to confront or even recognize the central moral question of their day; slavery.
The central moral question of our day is abortion. Since Ronald Reagan, the GOP has at least paid lip service to the cause of saving the unborn. Very little has actually been accomplished to stop it, but at least the Party has been predominately pro-life.
But if the new standard is Arnold Schwarzenegger, we are heading for the end of the Party. It will become as useless in this generation as the Whig Party became in its generation, and will join the Whigs on the ashheap of history.
I don't want that. Too many have sacrificed too much to make the Republican Party the ruling majority party in the United States. The damage to our republic done by the collapse of the GOP would be incalculable.
So, get your history straight.
You are mistaken in thinking that an unwillingness to support a self-described 'extreme liberal on social issues' (that is politico-speak for abortion) will cause the downfall of our Party when exactly the opposite is true.
I hope you will consider my words.
Regards,
EV

But if the new standard is Arnold Schwarzenegger, we are heading for the end of the Party. And what a standard.
The GOP has settled for nothing more than candidates that they think can take votes from Democrats while never understanding (I assume) that they're fast becoming that which they have hated all along: Democrats.

I have seen many of your posts regarding abortion, and I have a question for you.
If it were possible to end abortion after the 3rd month, would you agree to that compromise? Or is it an all or nothing issue for you?

... I hope you will consider my words ...I have considered your words and reject them. I am very tired of the x-tremist wing of the party losing elections for us. Perhaps you should take your principled 8% and form the principled party. The 92% of us remaining would acquire many more than your 8% by bringing back those that you have alienated.
