Bardot protests against dog-eating in South Korea
Brigitte Bardot has sent a protest letter to South Koreans over their country's dog-eating culture. She says it is absurd to try to justify it.
About three million of South Korea's 46 million people are believed to eat dog meat as a delicacy.
Bardot's open letter to the people of South Korea was posted on her animal protection foundation's website.
"Defending and justifying this brutality in the name of culture is an absurdity," she says.
She said her Brigitte Bardot Foundation has received nearly a thousand insulting and threatening messages about its campaign.
"I dare to hope that all Koreans are not like those who recently sent those awful messages to my foundation, and I dare to hope that many of you will not ignore animal suffering," the letter said.
She did not detail contents of the messages in her letter.
Earlier this month, Bardot angered South Koreans by hanging up the phone during an interview with South Korean radio and television network MBC, while discussing the country's dog-eating culture.

I know this story is sort of dated, but I got 4 dogs of my own, and I cringe to think that folks can eat dogs like this.

Is dog-eating this prevalent in the Orient?

Maybe they can switch to Frogs' legs.

Not really considering the numbers. In some parts of South Korea and India they have dog farms specifically for the purpose of eating. I don't know about this one. Does Bardot wear any leather or fur? Can't have it both ways. I kept chickens as pets after my kid sister's science experiment. But just yesterday I enjoyed a nice curry chicken dinner.
Dogs do not seem very appetizing to me either way.

So what! The Lewis and Clark expedition lived for months on dog meat prefering it over horse.
I've never tried it myself.

I am being nice! I didn't compare her to PETA wackjobs (that's being super nice). I just secretly wonder whenever Hollywood people take up a cause celeb.

Going through survival training you learn to eat all kinds of things. Some of them you're told not to chew , just swallow. Soooo, dog, horse, bear even cat doesn't seem all that distatsefull. I'd prefer primerib medium-well but if I were starving I know what will get me through.
Just a thought to get those with weak stomachs spinning :-)

"Defending and justifying this brutality in the name of culture is an absurdity," she says. So much for liberals tolerance for diversity.
When they see something they don't agree with, they expect a whole culture to change because they say so.
I have a dog. I've been around these pets all my life. I love dogs, but I can't tell the people in S.Korea what to do.
In South Korea, they think nothing of eating them. They don't have an emotional attachment to them.
India thinks we're eating our reincarnated ancestors when we eat beef.
In China, they eat aborted human fetises in soup!!! What? No outcry over eating the dead human babies????
