No, my Senator is Brad Marrs, but I always considered Watkins to be a friend of the taxpayer...I will not make that mistake again.

And Bob Bloxom would not endorse Tom Dix.

And look where Bob Bloxom is today...

I understand the point you are making......but I look at the 2 issues differently.

Not only did Dix say he would support tax increases, he was a gun grabber.

I wasn't able to vote in the 2003 primary, because I was still battling with DMV to prove I actually am a US citizen - but I was paying attention to it. Had I been able to vote in the primary, Dix would not have been my choice anyway.

Do you? ;-)

I was referring to Bloxom's new job. Don't think he didn't know it was coming a long time ago.

From what I have heard from others Watkins follows Stosch. So I've been joking that if Stosch asked Watkins to raise taxes, Watkins would reply "how high?" Apparently the answer was about $1.5 billion.

"Watkins follows Stosch."

It seems that if we really wanted to get Watkins out of there, we'd only need to start playing up the sordid insider trading surrounding his family and the re-routing of 288...if my recollection is correct, his family made a killing on the real estate dealings fer that. Talk about yer conflict of interest...MUD

It's been a few years, but it was back when they were choosing between two potential routes for the 288 link from Midlothian to 64W. I don't know all the particulars, but I believe it was the Watson family that was very much involved in the negotiations fer land. As you might expect, somebody got very rich selling old farmland in Powhatan...LOL!!

Yer from Powhatan...was this ever a big story? Or do I have the wrong guy?

Nick - I think think we should tag-team blasting away at Stosch. You've done well already telling him his decision on the tax increase was wrong. Let's keep it up! Stosch needs to feel the pain.

Good God almighty - the stench of corruption flows from Richmond City Hall and across the street to the General Assembly building. Sometimes I think we're fighting an uphill battle.

Thought so...seems like Watkins is just yer typical country-club Republican, gaming the system to his benefit. Wonder if anyone is qualified to whup his arse in a primary?

"Sometimes I think we're fighting an uphill battle..."

That we are...but we are winning!! Not too long ago, it was the even-worse DemonRATS who dominated the Statehouse and the Governor's mansion...now it's up to us in the GOP to start ridding ourselves of the Big Guv'ment RINO trash.

Maybe you're right. It sure doesn't feel like we're winning, though.

"Ring DemBells!!"
(To be sung to Bob Dylan's "Ring Them Bells")

Ring Dem bells, you heathens with yer Big Guv'ment schemes...
Ring Dem bells from yer sanctuaries where Vile Lib'rals preach!!
"Re-Impeach!!" Mudboy cried...
"We got Truth on our side...
"And Clinton's Power's fractured...Sweet Justice be thine!!"

Ring Dem bells, good FReepers, let yer OUTRAGE show!!
Ring Dem bells...make yer Righteous stand, so Ashcroft will know!!
Folks, it's Rush Hour now...
Help us FReep 'gainst RATS' Power!!
Lord, the sun is settin' low upon Left's sacred cows!!

Ring Dem bells, Sweet Justice, tell yer Congressman...
Ring Dem bells so the World will know McAuliffe's SCUM!!
Folks, the Networks are asleep...
But their Power's weak...
And the Country's still filled with lost sheep.

Ring Dem bells...fer Left's Blind Ignorance!!
Ring Dem bells for RATS' morally-bereft!
Ring Dem bells for Left's chosen few...
Who would judge the many...
Yet say, "Slick is KEWL!!"
Ring Dem bells for the Chi-Com SPIES...
For the kids that died...
When innocents FRIED!!

Ring Dem bells, brave Patriots, shan't let Tyranny bloom!!
Ring Dem bells for our Sailors whom Slick Willie entombed!!
List of crimes is long...
But Bold FReepers are strong...
And We're Breakin' Down Resistance to Rightin' Wrongs!!!

I just finished reading the twice weekly local Gannett Rag, unfortunately they put little of it in their online version so I have to paraphrase the guest column put in by Del. Lynn Lewis (D-Accomack)

As I have said before, I personally like the guy and he is my attoney and those things won't change - however after reading his column anything nice I ever said about him as a moderate to conservative democrat is off the table.

Most of his column is about Gov. Warner's presentation to the money commjittees last Friday and his proposals for amending the budget, with afew comments about Bloxom's welcome as Ag Secretary designee.

I directly quote the comments I found to be most offensive:

""the Governor's amendments to last year's budget are, in his tradition, fiscally sound and conservative. Projections indicate that Virginia will have just over $900 extra to budget. while this is good news, since it indicates a robust and rebounding economy, the down side is that most of this surplus is generated by the Depart of Defense spenging for homeland security in Northern Virginia and to a less exetent in Hampton Roads.

""Other regions of the state, the southwest, the southside and the eastern Shore, still continue to lag significantly behind in econmic development.

""The governor essentially proposed returning a portion of this surplus to taxpayers by accelerating the food tax cut and also to provide a onetime infusion of funds into our significantly ailing system of transportation and for rebuilding our revenue stabilization fund.""

There's more - but that part really irked me, particularly his reference to Warner being fiscally conservative.

Lewis will be holding a townhall type meeting here on the Shore January 7, and you all better believe I will be there. Any and all ammo you all can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Warner and his minions can continue to try and paint Warner as a Fiscal Conservatism 'til they are blue in the face, but anybody with a clue knows it's all hogwash. Ol' Horseface is a typical Northeastern Lib'ral Tax-and-Spender!!

Y'all have taught me well and I appreciate it. I rely on all of you who have been here for guidance. My life would have been so much easier if I had the internet when I first moved to Delaware in 1982....back then I had to learn the ins and outs the old fashioned way - in library, on the phone, and in person.

I thank you and the others for all your assistance and guidance helping me to figure out what's what in Virginia.
