MISSOURI LTC UPDATE 9-10-2003
BREAKING NEWS
HOUSE VOTES TO OVERRIDE! The history making legislative session of 2003 continues!
The Missouri House voted today to override Governor Bob Holden's veto of HB349, Missouri's License-to-Carry proposal by a vote of 115 for override to 39 opposed. A successful override required 109 votes.
The Missouri House made a clear statement that they do trust the citizens of Missouri. The override in the House was a successful bi-partisan effort led by the bill's sponsor Rep. Larry Crawford and several others including Rep. Frank Barnitz. The people of Missouri should be proud of the 115 representatives that voted to finally give Missouri residents the same opportunity given to citizens of 35 other states... namely the ability to apply for permission to carry a concealed firearm for personal protection IF qualified.
But this is only the first hurdle in the two-hurdle race. The override effort now moves to the Missouri Senate where the success of override is less certain.
Will Senator Dolan be able to return to cast his much needed vote? Will Senator Gibbons vote for override or to sustain the veto?
The outcome of the vote in the Senate is less than certain but we do have a chance to be successful.
Call these following Senators and THANK THEM for their support of HB349 during the session. Ask them to stay the course and vote to override the governor's veto.
Matt Bartle R-8 434 (573)751-1464 Harold L. Call Senator Gibbon's office and POLITELY thank him for all he has done to allow HB349 to be heard and voted on during the regular session.
Michael Gibbons R-15 221 (573)751-2853
Politely ask him to vote for the override of the governor's veto. Ask him to vote to give the honest citizen's of Missouri the same opportunity given the citizens of 35 other states; the ability to ask permission of the state to carry a concealed firearm for personal protection IF qualified.
We are now down to the last hurdle. We may be successful and can all look forward to fingerprints, safety classes, and background checks. Or we may be looking for another year of trying to get the Missouri Legislature to do what should have been done so many years ago... pass LTC.
However it turns out in the end, this has been a HISTORIC year of successes for Missouri's effort to pass LTC reform and supporters of this effort both in and out of the legislature can stand proud for what they have achieved this historic year.
Keep your head up high. Within less than a day's time we will know.

THIS IS OUR CHANCE!
OTB (one-term Bob) needs to feel the heat!
Doesn't sound like they're all bad.
