That is the GHETTO!
It's just north of Van Buren, do I need to say any more?

Pimping should be a capital crime.

Nope! Just a comment on that really nice area. I had to go to a business that is a few blocks from the address. They
showed me 15-20 bullets that they picked up from the floor of the warehouse over a period of time which came through the walls and roof! If you haven't driven Van Buren St or
one other the other "President" streets which are South of I-10 in Phoenix you really haven't lived. Take a look at the "girls" who should be in school.

I was in Phoenix in 1983 and it seemed to be a safe town . Have things changed or was I just in the right sections of the city ?

I was in Phoenix in 1983 and it seemed to be a safe town . Have things changed or was I just in the right sections of the city ?I was in Phoenix about 3 years ago and it seemed like a very safe and pleasant place. Of course, I live only 20 miles from Detroit so most other places look tame to me. ;-)

Pimping is slavery. MTV culture embraces it. Viacom could be more socially responsible but they aren't.
Some on FR think that legalizing prostitution will end teen prostitution.

When my daughter was in high school a few years ago, she used to volunteer at a pregnant women's shelter at 15th and Garfield. It's okay in the daytime but at night it's pretty scary. It's more of a Latino neighborhood, with bars on all the windows, etc.

Most of Phoenix is still pretty tame in comparison to the bad side of LA or Chicago or New York or any other big city. There are, of course, parts of town in most cities where it is just not a good idea to go after dark.
Nowadays, I'm in the greater Seattle area, and there are *absolutely* places in Seattle that I won't go at night, even with a shotgun over my shoulder.

Well , I've been in Japan for 18 years , and this place has changed for the worse for sure with regards to crime , so can imagine how things must be in a place like Seattle . Still , compared to a US bigcity , Tokyo / Osaka are quite tame . One of the things that has kept me and my little family in Japan is the relatively low crime rate .
