WASHINGTON, Sept. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- US President George W. Bush said Wednesday that the United States remains committed to the Middle East "roadmap" peace plan despite a fresh cycle of violence between Israelis and Palestinians.
@@"I still believe strongly that two states (Israel and Palestine)living side by side in peace is a hopeful vision for the future of the Middle East. The road map is still there," Bush told reporters when meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah in the Oval Office.
@@"The fundamental question is whether or not peaceful people will be on the road. And one of the essential tenets of the roadmap is that people are responsible, parties need to be responsible for creating the conditions necessary for peace to prevail," he said.
@@He said Palestinian prime minister-designate Ahmed Qurei's job is to consolidate power within his administration to get all the Palestinian security forces under control and unleash those forces against terrorist groups.
@@Only in this way can progress be made in moving forward the peace process, Bush noted.
@@Meanwhile, Bush said, Israel also has responsibilities not only to protect its own people but to create the conditions necessary for those in the Palestinian Authority who do believe in peace, who do believe in the vision of two states, to prevail.
@@"It's tough times there now. ...But the vision is still there, because I strongly believe it's in the interest of everybody that two states live side by side in peace," he said.
@@Talking about a new US-proposal UN Security Council resolution aimed at broader international participation in rebuilding Iraq, Bush said the United States is hopeful that it can get a "good resolution."
@@He said he does not think France and Germany are opposed to such a resolution but may want to try fine-tune the US-proposed draft. "We're listening, we're open for suggestion," Bush said.
@@"My call, however, to nations is that let us not get caught up in past bickering, let us move forward," he said.
@@"A free Iraq is in everybody's interest. A peaceful Iraq is in the world's interest. And I'm confident we can work together to achieve that," Bush added. Enditem
I don't think anyone else is.
But the vision is still there, because I strongly believe it's in the interest of everybody that two states live side by side in peace
Blatantly false. Far too many Palenstinians prefer to murder Israelis than to live side by side in peace. Until this changes, no such "road map" is possible.
This sure makes him look that way.
God bless those Israelis soon to be murdered for theis "vision".
"I still believe strongly that two states (Israel and Palestine)living side by side in peace is a hopeful vision for the future of the Middle East. The road map is still there,"
I have a Brooklyn Bridge to sell you Mr. President.
Meanwhil, Bush can say in all honesty, "I tried. I set up a scenario in which the Pales could have their own state, and they simply refused to meet the conditions."
If I'm not mistaken, this is almost exactly the same trap Bush laid for Saddam---set up a series of tests that Saddam would not meet, but which appeared reasonable.
I expect consistency in the so-called, War on Terror...which is really a war by Islamism against us, against the Jews and everything and everybody else not Dar al Islam.
I want him to stop undermining Israel's options by his strutting his, "Now, I mean what I say" moments that the rest of the world sneers at anyway, and finally get a clue that we're dealing with the same enemy.
God, what is it going to take?
Every minute that goes by in which we, as Americans even, do not take Arafat - as a murderer of Americans - or kill him trying, deepens this confilict to the point of farce.
A little education might suit you better than otherwise apparently wasting your time on "this discussion forum".
That's too bad. Keep studying. No need to remember you heard it here first. Good luck.
Ping me when he says something like that.
I want him to stick to his doctrine he set forth in the post-9/11 world view of the US and that is that regimes which harbor terrorists will suffer the consequences of those terror groups it harbors. The Palestinian Authority is a terrorist regime, and instead of supporting Israel's fight against that regime, President Bush comes out with some "peace" plan that Israel needs to negotiate with that terror regime. What am I missing here? Did Bush negotiate with the Taliban? No. He gave them 48 hours to comply and that was it. Why do the Israelis have to continue to suffer at the hands of the Arab terrorists Bush refuses to support destroying, instead saying that the PA terror regime must comfront their own friends. Comeon, give me a break.
I want the administration to equate Israel's war on terrorism with our war on terrorism. So far, as with the rest of the administrations, we have refused to do so. Clinton was no different. We have Olso with a new name, "roadmap"
Peace cannot be achieved with a terrorist entity. Bush refuses to view the Palestinian Authority as a terrorist regime.
How wrong can a man be? One nation is never responsible for creating conditions necessary for peace in another nation. Israel is responsible for protecting herself from nihilist techno-Barbarians. Period.
Exactly. Was there anyone in the former-Taliban terror regime who believed in Peace?
All of them, all the techno-Barbarians are nihilists, meaning their only purpose is destruction of the Good. Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged clearly depicts the motive and behavior of nihilists.
